visual arts, and literature.<br />
Entries, which must reflect this<br />
year’s “Wow!” theme are judged<br />
on the local level and move on to<br />
regional and national levels if<br />
selected.<br />

Kimball joins Mainstreet<br />
OCEANSIDE — MainStreet<br />
Oceanside Board Chairperson<br />
Mary Ann Thiem announced the<br />
appointment of Kim Kimball to<br />
the position of executive director<br />
for MainStreet Oceanside.<br />
Kimball comes to Oceanside<br />
from San Luis Obispo County.<br />
Nominated for the small<br />
Business Person award from the<br />
State of California in 2005,<br />
Kimball received the lifetime<br />
achievement recognition of the<br />
Community Treasure Award from<br />
the city of Morro Bay in 2006.<br />
“We are so thrilled about<br />
this dedication and hope it<br />
inspires some great creativity for<br />
the Reflections program this<br />
year,” Melinda Della Penna, cochairperson<br />
for the program at<br />
Poinsettia Elementary, said.<br />
“This is really what it’s all about:<br />
encouraging students to broaden<br />
their artistic talents so that they<br />
can in turn share it with others.”<br />

City selects Albright<br />
CARLSBAD — Brian<br />
Albright has been selected as the<br />
city’s new recreation director,<br />
according to City Manager Lisa<br />
Hildabrand. Albright was selected<br />
after the retirement of director<br />
Ken Price in April 2008. Albright<br />
will begin work Oct. 24.<br />
Albright will be responsible<br />
for planning, organizing and<br />
directing the activities of the city’s<br />
recreation, senior and park planning<br />
programs; developing and<br />
implementing department policies<br />
and procedures; preparing<br />
and administrating the department<br />
budget and ordinances.<br />
