A8 THE COAST NEWS OCT. 3, 2008 FBI’s MOST WANTED Ignacio Coronel Villareal is alleged to be the head of a major drugtrafficking organization, which is based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Villareal was born Feb. 1, 1954 and is about 5’3” tall. He weighs 145 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. His aliases include “Nacho” and “King of Ice.” Although the Ignacio Coronel Villareal Mexican Drug Trafficking Organization, or ICV- MDTO, is based in Mexico, the scope of its influence and operations penetrate throughout the United States, Mexico, and several other European, Central American, and South American countries. The ICV-MDTO has been growing in power since the early 1990s and is now considered one of the most powerful drug-trafficking organizations in Mexico. On Dec. 17, 2003,Villareal was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Western District of Texas. Additionally, on Dec. 19, 2003, a federal arrest warrant was issued in the Western District of Texas, El Paso Division, charging Villareal with conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to import a controlled substance. The U.S. Department of State, Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, under its Narcotics Rewards Program, is sponsoring a reward of up to $5 million for info leading directly to the arrest and/or conviction of Villareal. OCT. 3, 2008 Victim turned defendant on trial for assault By Randy Kalp OCEANSIDE — A middle-aged woman allegedly assaulted after a verbal altercation with Fourth of July partygoers pleaded not guilty Sept. 25 to an assault charge stemming from an incident earlier in the month. Althea Green, 40, is charged with a single count of assault with a deadly weapon and faces up to four years in prison if convicted. A special enhancement that Green caused great bodily injury to the woman is attached to the charge. Witnesses testified that on Sept. 8, Green pushed the victim to the street on Vista Way and then kicked her several times while she was on the ground. Green told police she wasn’t kicking the woman but trying to revive her and when that didn’t work she pulled her out of the street to safety. In the case of the Fourth of July party assault, Harry Klaus, 36, pleaded not guilty Sept. 17 to a single count each of assault and battery stemming from an incident around 2 a.m. July 5 with Green in the alley of Cleveland Street near Missouri Avenue in Oceanside. Green remains in jail on $75,000 bail. She was ordered back to court Nov. 13 for trial. Klaus, who’s currently free on bond, is due back in court Dec. 9 for trial. MiraCosta set to host career, major fair OCEANSIDE — The MiraCosta College Center for Career Studies and Services will be hosting a Career and Major Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Hub Fountain area (outside of Building 1200) on the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive. The fair will provide opportunities for attendees to chat with MiraCosta and university faculty, explore majors, and learn about the world of work from industry professionals. By Randy Kalp OCEANSIDE — A 43-yearold man was found guilty Sept. 25 of slaying the leader of a North County skinhead gang nearly two years ago. A jury convicted David McKinney of the seconddegree murder of Nathaneal Neumann in a hotel room in the early morning hours of Nov. 20, 2006. Police said McKinney, a parolee at the time, shot Neumann, 30, once in the chest with a .45-caliber handgun at the Oceanside Inn in the 1600 block of Oceanside Boulevard. Neumann, who was also known as “Joker,” was pronounced dead at the scene. A Jan. 22 sentencing date has been set, at which time McKinney faces up to life in prison. THE COAST NEWS A9 O’side man to stand trial for harbor stabbing Witness says accused man threatened to ‘kill’ By Randy Kalp OCEANSIDE — A prosecutor called an Oceanside man a “danger to the community” after witnesses testified Sept. 24 about a vicious bar fight. Deputy District Attorney Nicole Roth said Robert Daniel Stanson’s actions Sept. 8 were “violent and inherently dangerous,” as she asked the Superior Court judge to triple LEARN ACCOUNTING! Superior Court Judge Joan Weber agreed and raised Stanson’s bail to the aforementioned amount saying this is a “really scary case.” Following the bail increase, Stanson pleaded not guilty to two counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and a single count of battery with serious bodily injury. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years in prison, according to court documents. The victim, who is still recovering from the incident, testified he received 27 staples to mend the single stab In the days leading up to the murder, key prosecution witness Travis Tidwell, a former co-defendant in the case, said McKinney and Neumann, who’d only been out of prison for a week, were having rifts in their relationship. He said he believed Neumann was planning on “stabbing” McKinney, partly because of comments Neumann made to him, as well as because of a conversation he overheard between McKinney and a close friend of Neumann’s in the hours leading up to the slaying. Tidwell, an acquaintance Elect of both men, testified he allowed McKinney to use his truck and at McKinney’s request called to the Oceanside Inn to confirm that Neumann was still in the room. Further, Tidwell said he also retrieved the handgun for McKinney from a Carlsbad hotel room hours before the slaying. During his testimony, Tidwell, 27, said he wanted to take advantage of a plea deal that could reduce a potential life prison sentence to only several more years in custody for his role in Neumann’s murder. Tidwell’s plea bargain is still contingent on whether the prosecutor and judge believed his testimony was truthful. If granted, he will be convicted of a single count of voluntary manslaughter. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 23. McKinney was arrested Jan. 1, 2007, after trying to reenter the United States at the San Ysidro border crossing. Tidwell, who was in jail at the time on a separate burglary case, was charged shortly after, because of statements McKinney made to police. Witnesses testified an intoxicated Stanson attacked the victim with a fishing knife after the two men had a brief confrontation outside the Monterey Fish Canary at the Oceanside harbor. The victim’s friend, David Reed, said following the attack he located Stanson in the parking lot hiding in between cars, the defendant then charged him with the knife in a striking position; however, he was able to defend himself with a nearby microphone stand. As Reed pinned him to the ground, he said Stanson just laughed as he punched him and then the defendant told him, “He’d come to Temecula to kill me.” Reed testified this scared him, because he didn’t know Stanson. Defense attorney Ricky Crawford told the judge his client was an avid fisherman, which could explain why he had the small legal knife on him at the bar. A Nov. 13 trial date was set.
