The driving tour through the park is approxi- mately 5 miles long, and the spectacle of the luminaries is an experience you will never forget. See information at this link: [http://www.nps.gov/ anti/planyourvisit/luminary.htm] UPCOMING EVENTS Although the Memorial Illumination is a tribute to our history, it is also a tremendous venue for a Porsche Club of America tour. Our plan is to dine and drive, providing attendees a memorable holiday dining experience at one of area’s nicer restaurants and then touring the park in the later evening after the lines dissipate. We have selected the highly rated Comus Inn at Sugarloaf Mountain [http://www.thecomusinn.com/] in Montgom- ery County for its ambience and proximity to the battlefield. Check it out at: We’ll meet at the Inn at 7:00 PM on 5 December, and then leave the restaurant parking lot at 9:00 PM for the hour’s drive to the battlefield at Sharpsburg. We will probably have to wait in line for 30 minutes or so to enter the park. While we wind our way through the park, vehicles are to use parking lights only, to the extent technology permits. If all goes well, we should be done by 11:00 PM. Event brochures will be distributed at the event entrance and contributions will also be accepted by the Park. There will be more information forthcoming on this event as details un- fold. Please note that while we encourage Porsches at this event, all vehicles are welcome to accommodate families and friends who want to experience the lights. If you do not want to join us for dinner at the Inn, please meet us at the parking lot at 9:00 PM for the tour. RSVPs for dinner at the Inn and/or just the tour is mandatory. OCTOBER EVENTS S E PTE M B E R 2 6 TH ▪ CC40 – ON THE BRICKS by Joanie and Bob Purgason If you didn’t believe that Porsches came in all shapes, sizes and colors, then you should have attended the 40 th Special Edition of the Chesapeake Challenge on the bricks. This year’s event was chaired by Ellen Beck and Bob Gutjahr, and was held in the Historic Frederick Everedy Square and Shab Row. The date was September 26, 2009, and all that can be said is that it was a perfectly planned and executed event, and who would have expected less from these two experienced chair people. Colorful it was, historic it was, enjoyed by all who attended, it was. The only minor downside was something no one can control, the weather. At least the really bad part did hold off until the Concours judging was finished. Even though the Gimmick Rally was run in less than desirable conditions, it was still enjoyed by all who selected that from their menu of activities. These included the morning Concours/Car Show, the afternoon Rally, an early evening Tech Quiz, and the optional dinner at the Frederick Cellars winery. Almost a weekend of activities squeezed into one day. Before going on with our CC40 description, we would like to salute the volunteers who made this, and all events, so successful. Showing up early at 7:00 AM, helping in all phases of the event from traffic control, parking line up, registration, Concours set up and judging, designing the rally, and event scoring. All of these special members deserve a big pat on the back for what they do; because without them the rest of us could not enjoy what we do, participate. Next time you see one of them, give them that pat on the back and a big Thank You! The cars were in all colors - red, orange, blue, silver, white, black and so on. Grey skies sometime help to enhance colors and make them more vivid, and that was a magic ingredient that helped all the cars look wonderful. The shapes were impressive also, front engine, mid engine, and the rear engine sorta dictate the shapes of our Porsches, and that’s always unique to see.
