After a false start to spring the weather has since
cooled down and the April showers have arrived
giving us much needed rain; perhaps a little too
much! We have just gone through the Easter
holiday with some very enjoyable and well run
rallies, my thanks to all the new, and old, rally
organisers who really do deserve a medal for the
hard work and patience they show. I think this
holiday produced the most number of late entries
to rallies that we have had in a long time, whilst
we were able to accommodate most people it did
cause big headaches for the organisers who had
to try and find additional instructors at the last
minute. I know it is not always possible to book
well ahead, but do please try and keep to the 2
week booking rule, this at least gives the organisers
a chance to offer you the very best rallies.
Eventing Rally at Lyneham
The competitive season is well under way, although
the rain is trying very hard to put a stop to
this, but we look forward to the first of the Area
competitions, mounted games, this month – we
wish our teams every success. If you are wishing
to be considered for any of the Area teams
please do try and make use of the training being
run by the Branch; the discipline managers need
to see you out competing and participating in the
training in order to help them make the difficult
decision of who will represent the branch.
Congratulations to the senior team (Caroline Rus-
sell, Alice MacSkimming and Carlota Browne)
and junior team (Ann Russell, Tori Jones and Kate
Darlison) who participated in the Area Horse and
Pony Care competition and were a credit to our
Branch. Hopefully all the hard work they put in
preparing for this competition will hold them in
good stead for any tests they may take later in the
year.
The first of the Branch run competitions took
place at the end of March and I would like to
thank Leah Haven and her team for a successful,
friendly, well run mounted games competition.
We are running two more competitions over the
summer; show jumping at Weston Lawns and a
ODE and Tetrathlon at Offchurch. Details of these
events and schedules can be found in the programme
and on our website so please support
these events firstly by entering and then by offering
your help; we rely solely on volunteers to run
these events and it is the members who benefit
from the proceeds which go towards the cost of
instruction and test training.
I look forward to seeing
as many of you as
possible, particularly
new members, at the
rallies, camps and
events we are running
over the summer

make friends, help
and most of all enjoy

Secretary’s news - Linda Wolverson
It was good to see so many of you at rallies over the Easter period and the turn out of you and your ponies
has been excellent, just don’t forget your hair nets. There are some really exciting things planned
for the summer season which I am sure you will all enjoy, however they do take a lot of organisation so
please if you can help do offer as there is always something to do.
Our show jumping show at Weston Lawns is on the 9 th of June and if you can help even if it just for an
hour or two please let me know. The Jubilee
celebration at Offchurch Bury I am
sure will be one not to miss so make sure
you apply in plenty of time as there is lots
going on.
As you will know Leti Oyamburu has
taken over the role of Mini Badge Coordinator
and is planning a rally on 25 th
July at Cherry Pool Farm, Claverdon.
Some of you are close to attaining your
gold badge and Leti thought it would be
a good idea to let her know what badges
you needed so that she could put on the
appropriate badges. You have to have 14
badges in total to be awarded Gold, so
count your badges and let her know what
you’re missing. A list of all the badges is
on the main Pony Club website.

DISCIPLINE REPORTS
Dressage - Emma Hawley
The Dressage and Eventing season is well and truly under way now. I hope many of you managed to
get some arena practice in before the main competitions started.
During the winter we have had some training at Moreton Morrell and at Lowlands Farm, thank you to
you all that attended I hope you managed to take something away from the sessions. I hope to put on
some more dates before the Area competitions to polish up on the relevant tests that you might be
riding.
Please get in touch with me if you would like to be considered for the Novice, Intermediate or Open
team. Email would be best so you can put down name, age and competition record (test percentages
and placings). I don’t know everyone so please come forward and make yourself known to me
or you may be missed!!
Good luck for the season and most importantly enjoy your competitions.
Polocrosse - Gill James
We shall hopefully continue with the success we have experienced over the last few years with our
awesome NWPC Polocrosse players......Playing at the Polocrosse World Cup, playing for the UK in
Australia, this year representing England in Ireland and of course winning the Pony Club Champs.
If you wish to practice and compete for the Pony Club this year and would like to come to practices....
Please contact me to let me know which weekday evenings would suit.
We also have a Pony Club competition coming up on May 27th in Shrewsbury -this will be suitable
for novice to experienced players. Once again
contact me if you are interested.

Eventing - Gill Bleloch
What a wet season so far! I was really looking forward
to getting our young horse out and watching
you all compete at Pony Club Events,but everything
seems to be cancelled! Never mind, lots
of opportunity to practice your dressage!
A few of us managed to get to Aston le Walls, Offchurch and Ludlow events and it was great to see
you there. We have some exciting combinations working towards Areas. Please drop me an email
and let me know your progress.
We had a really good XC training session at Lyneham. I hope those of you who attended enjoyed it.
Lyneham is well worth the journey for a XC school.
Events coming up are the Offchurch Schools 2 day 26/27th May, South Staffs PC at Catton 4th June, I
hope to see you all there! Other events which may be of interest to you are Albrighton 10th June, Bicester
& Warden Hill (Gawcott) 10th June, Pychley 17th June, Warwickshire 24th June.
During the winter months I organised some training with Jonquil Hemming which was very well attended.
I am happy to arrange this again if enough of you are interested, please let me know.

We will be running an introduction afternoon on Saturday 26th May, at Wootton Grange Farm, Hill
Wootton, CV35 7PP. It will be run as clear round jumping with instruction at heights from 2ft up to
3ft. Please email Jo Hayward if you would like to go or for more information. Payment on the day.
Please contact us if you are interested in jumping even if you are unable to make the 26th as future
opportunities will be organised and we wish build up a strong showjumping base of NWPC members.

Tetrathlon - Anita White
Whilst the winter weather did lay claim to the Area triathlon
in February, we did have a good entry for the
Warwickshire and West Warwickshire triathlons in the
spring. These help us get back into the swing of things
with the three disciplines of shooting, swimming and
running before the full tetrathlon season commences.
The Warwickshire triathlon was particularly successful
for the Johnson family with Alex winning best shoot for
junior boys and Maggie coming individually 5 th in her
first attempt in junior girls.
However we do look forward to the full tetrathlon season
and were lucky enough to complete our first com-

petition at the Cotswold Vale Farmers Hunt on a weekend where just about every other competition
had been cancelled due to the rain. The Deer park course above Cheltenham is ideal for new members
and those moving up a course for the first time.
Flo Hatton rode a brilliant clear round to come 3 rd in her competition, Millie Hatton was 5 th and Kate
Darlison was 7 th in mini girls with Josh White 7 th in mini boys. Alex Johnson again won the shoot and
Ellie Miller was 5 th in the tiddler girl competition. But pride of place had to be given to our
‘wrinklies’ team of Stuart Hatton, Neil Darlison, Sandra Miller and Jess White who came first amidst
much celebration.
We now look forward to the area competition in July where we hope once again to send representatives
from our branch to the national competition and at the end of the season, of course, there is our
own Competition, which , this year, is combined with our horse trials competiton at Offchurch in
early September.
We always welcome new members and shooting training is still on most Wednesday nights at Mill
House.
Mounted Games and PPC - Leah Haven
Firstly (as usual) a massive Thank You to all our trainers
who work so hard with all our children.
The Mounted Games season is well under way with
weekly training sessions now outside at Stoneleigh
Park, and our Area Competition less than a month
away. We have sent teams to Atherstone, United Pack,
and Berwyn and Dee Pony Club competitions, as well
as running our very own competition on 25th March
which was a huge success. We had 18 senior teams
and 12 junior teams from up as far as Cheshire and
down to Hampshire, and the sun even shone too!
(Thanks again to all the trainers, parents, friends, and
other people who got roped in to help - we couldn't
have done it without them!).
We are always looking for new riders so if you are interested
please feel free to contact me.
Polo - Dawn Dawson
Amy had a great start to the pony club polo season
with a second place at the arena polo tournament at
Longdole. It was a hotly contested final with Amy’s
Grafon team losing by 2 goals to the division one side
of the Cottesmore. We had a couple of training sessions booked at Onley during Easter then play
another arena tournament at Lunt. Fingers crossed for a good season ahead!

How to Apply for Summer Camps 2012
All camps require you to apply for camp, together with your payment or BACS notification, using the same Camp
Application Letter.
May 1st
Camp Application letters will be emailed out to members on May 1st. If you do not receive one then they will also
be available to download from the Parent’s Info page on the NWPC website. For those not on email then Application
Letters will posted out to you.
Applications, together with the appropriate money, should be returned to the designated person by May 25 th at the
latest. This year you will be able to pay by BACS, its success is dependent upon you referencing the payment
clearly. We ask that you use your Pony Club membership number (this will be sent to you with the Camp Application
letter) together with the word “CAMP”.
May 25th
Camp Information Packs will be available to download from the Parent’s Info page, on NWPC website, from May
25 th . They will not be emailed to you as in previous years. Those members who do not have access to the internet
will be sent a Camp Pack in the post based on the information given in the Application letter.
Applications made after May 25 th will be put on a waitlist and will have to wait for confirmation that there is space.
These packs will give you full details about the camp and the forms for completion provide the organiser with all
the information they need about your child and their pony to ensure camp runs smoothly. Again, it is important
that you return the required forms by June 18th.
Applications made after June 18 th will incur a £10 late booking fee

Mini Camp is for those who have, by the first day of camp, not reached their 9 th birthday. However, in some
cases older children will be accepted if they are not considered ready for midi camp. If there are spaces you may
apply to both Mini and Midi camps, children will be considered on an individual basis. If you are unsure please
speak to the Barbara Milburn.
Camp is for three days, 10am to 4pm, and is not residential. However, you may if you wish, leave the pony at
camp and they are turned out at night in a paddock at your own risk. Children ride twice each day and helpers/
leaders are provided. Parents do not stay during the day but are invited back for the last afternoon to watch the
children perform, followed by tea and presentations. Children bring their own packed lunch.

Midi camp is for those who, by the start of camp, have attained their 9 th birthday and have not reached their 11 th
birthday. However, older children will be accepted if they are considered not ready for main camp. If there are
spaces you may apply to more than one camp, children will be considered on an individual basis. If you are unsure
please speak to the Liz Grindal or Michelle Davies to discuss which camp is most suitable.
Camp is residential for two nights and the ponies are accommodated overnight in fields either separated by your
own electric pens (preferable) or in paddocks split between mares and geldings. Children may sleep in caravans,
tents and lorry’s (no trailers please). Do not worry if you have no one to sleep with, we will help you find someone.
There will be at least two adults sleeping over with the children each night.
All meals are provided but parents are asked for a contribution to one evening meal, plus a homemade cake!
Parents will be asked to help in the kitchen in preparing meals on a rota basis and are invited back on the last
afternoon to watch their children ride. Each ride has an Instructor and two helpers, so there is plenty of help for
the children should they need it. Children do not need to be able to tack up but should be confident in handling
their own pony.
They will be given the opportunity to do flatwork, games, show jumping and cross-country, but no child will be
forced to jump if the pony does not jump (e.g. games ponies) or if they are not ready. In the evening they will take
part in evening activities.
Offchurch Bury, Offchurch, 22 nd to 27 th July, £230

Main Camp is for those who have attained their 11 th birthday by the first day of camp and considered ready.
Please discuss with Gill Bleloch, camp organiser, if you are unsure as to which camp will suit.
Camp is residential for five nights and the ponies/horses are stabled for the entire period. Children may sleep in
caravans, tents or lorry’s (no trailers please). Do not worry if you have no one to sleep with we will help you find
someone. There will be adults sleeping over with the children each night. If there is anyone who can lend us a
caravan to be used by parents sleeping over then please contact Gill Bleloch.
All meals are provided for both your child and their pony/horse. Parents are asked to help in preparing all meals
on a rota basis. Parents are invited to the barbeque evening on Thursday night, should you need to come into
camp for any other reason, for safety reasons, you are asked to report to designated people first.
Each ride has an Instructor and Junior Instructor, children need to be able to tack up and handle their own ponies
and be safe in open fields.
Offchurch Bury offers wonderful facilities, including an exceptional cross-country course. We want camp to be
available to all members and therefore offer the chance for those who do not jump to join in. We can accommodate
non-jumpers either within specific rides, depending on numbers, or by putting them with other rides while
their own ride goes off jumping. Non-jumpers can be offered polocrosse, mounted games, flatwork, river swimming
and rides around the park. If you are in any doubt please speak to Gill Bleloch.

DON’T leave it too late for getting your rally qualifications, remember that camp 2011 will
count as one rally and one of the three must be in the current year, 2012. It is also
important to remember that qualification applies to each horse/pony, however, it does not have to be ridden at
the rally/camp by the person competing in the area competition.

We are currently running C test training with a
test imminent. Stable management sessions have
been well attended. Many thanks to Jayne Hatton
for hosting and organising this training.
Riding and Road Safety has also taken place (see
below). Your safety is most important which is
why you must be well prepared for this test. You
can practice at home with Mum and Dad! Thank
you Barbara and Emma for organising the recent
tests and training and to Leah who has kindly
agreed to take on future organisation.

As I have recently taken over the post of Riding and Road Safety, I would like to confirm the Pony
Club policy regarding Road Safety training and tests. We will be reviewing possible candidates
with regards to future tests. However if you are interested, or
you require any further information please feel free to contact
me.
Clarification for NWPC Road Safety Training
Training should be progressive, starting with the MINI
BADGE aged 7+ years, pre D test.
Training for the ROAD RIDER ACHIEVEMENT BADGE to begin
at age 11+ or once passed D+. The training should follow
existing scheme for the full road-rider test, but without the
road test section.
Training for ROAD RIDER TEST to begin at age 13+ or once
passed C test. The training should follow the existing
scheme but will include a demo rider on-the-road training
session and possibly a session with the Traffic Police. The test
will remain as now.

Little Shrewley Rally
Young Equestrian Leader Award – YELA
This award is going from strength to strength and the first four candidates
to complete their Gold Award visited Buckingham Palace in
March to have their certificates presented by HRH, The Princess
Royal!
The award runs over three progressive levels increasing from
20hours to achieve the Bronze standard up to 120hours to achieve
the Gold Standard.
The award is open to all young people between the ages of 13 and
25. Hours may be counted from volunteering with the Pony Club or
any BEF Member Body, but may not be backdated. Volunteering
can include helping at branch run events doing jobs such as pole
picking, fence judging (older members), stewarding, score collecting,
dressage writing etc or helping at
mini and midi camps. You will be
supplied with a log book to record
the hours you have helped and is
signed off by the organiser.

All rallies are listed in the calendar on the web site and in the programme. Details of who to send rally slips to
and any cost is detailed with each rally.
BOOKING PROCEDURE
Book rally by emailing (preferable) or send a rally slip to the organiser
Email confirmation will be sent back to you or if you have posted your slip you should ring one week before
the date of the rally
Complete the rally payment slip and send together with a cheque made payable to NWPC, to the Rally
Treasurer (Douglas Wells)
You must have confirmation of a place on the rally DO NOT TURN UP WITHOUT CONFIRMATION. If you
do not receive confirmation check with the rally organiser by phone, your application may have gone
astray.
If times are to be allocated they will be posted on the website or emailed to you three days before the rally.
Refer to individual rally details in the programme.
Rallies can book up quickly so do not leave it to the last minute and expect places to be available
Should you cancel without good reason within one week of the rally your payment will be forfeited. Refunds
will be given whenever possible for cancellations for valid reasons. A refund will be authorised by the
rally organiser on the rally accounts form and sent to the rally treasurer who will then set this up as a
credit against future rallies or will issue a cheque
RALLY PROCEDURE
Please make sure you arrive in plenty of time to tack up correctly and start the rally on time
Times in the programme indicate the time you should be ready to ride not when to arrive
Those who arrive late are disruptive and may miss vital safety checks and briefings. If you arrive late remember
to apologise to your Instructor
If you cannot attend the rally, even if it is on the morning of the rally, please let the organiser know on their
mobile. Mobile numbers are in the programme so there is no excuse for not notifying the organiser
A working rally indicates a rally that will usually begin with flat work instruction but could include other activities,
so come prepared with body protectors in case you should need them
If your child is on lead rein please provide a leader
Parents, please offer to help if you can
Parents, please watch from a distance and do not interfere with the Instructors
Every effort is made to place your child in a suitable ride. Sometimes due to the numbers or space it is very
difficult, so please be understanding. However should there be an obvious problem with the ride please
do not approach the Rally Organiser or Instructor but speak to the DC, Assistant DC, Organising Instructor
or Branch Secretary (one of which should be present at the rally).
It is really IMPORTANT that you thank the instructors, organisers and hosts at the end of a rally. This is just
as important when attending any other branch competition

RALLY TURNOUT FOR YOU AND YOUR PONY
RIDER
Members are expected to wear a white/pale blue shirt and pony club tie
Pony club sweatshirt or Hacking jacket. Cross country shirts may be worn at cross country rallies
Cream or beige jodhpurs
Pony club badge with felt if applicable when wearing jackets
Jodhpur boots short or long and clean
Long hair should be tied up and a hair net worn
Jewellery must NOT be worn. Newly pierced ears can be taped but NOT when competing in area
competitions
The correct standard hat is mandatory and must be tagged
Hat silks can be black or navy
Members are encouraged to purchase a NWPC rain jacket but any dark plain outer coat is acceptable
Members should look tidy, shirts tucked in, collars done up and tie tightened to the collar
Long sleeves should be worn for all jumping activities
PONIES
Numnahs and girths should be brown, white or navy. Any piping around the edge should be the
same colour
Tack should be clean and fitted correctly. A pony with badly fitting or dirty uncomfortable tack will
not be able to work and perform well
It is important that your pony is fit for the activity you are attending, and that their vaccinations are
up to date

Jubilee Jamboree!!
Half Term extravaganza
This is a special year with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics being held in the UK. To celebrate
this occasion we are going to hold a branch party on Wednesday June 6 th open to all members at
Offchurch Bury, by kind permission of Mr. H. E. Johnson.
Timetable for the day:
11 and Over 10 and Under
10am to 12pm Polocrosse or Dressage Park ride
12pm to 1pm Picnic in the Park
Approx 1.15pm Fancy Dress
2pm to 4pm Cross country

Mini Road Rider training
Everyone is invited to come and join in the fun; we would like to see as many people as possible. You
do not have to do everything; just let us know which activities you wish to take part in on the form below. In
between the 2 riding sessions we will have a “picnic in the park”. Please bring along a contribution of food
for the picnic. We will provide tables to lay out the food, so apart from food, you just need to bring along either
a chair or blanket to sit on and plates/cutlery/mugs. Squash will be provided for children and teas and
coffee for parents.
For those that like dressing up there will be a fancy dress competition during the lunch break. You can
choose between Royalty or Olympics as a theme - there will be prizes for the best ones.
There will be a second hand tack and riding clothing stall – please bring along any items in good condition
you wish to sell. Items can either be donated or 20% of the selling price will be retained towards branch
funds. Please attach a label to each item showing name, selling price and phone number. Any unnamed
items will deem to have been donated.
Everyone attending will receive a commemorative rosette.
The charge will be £10 for the day, no matter what you take part in.
