88th <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open Presented by BB&T<br />

<strong>May</strong> 8- 10, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Bryan Park Golf Course - Champions Course<br />

Browns Summit, N.C. - The <strong>Carolinas</strong> <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>Section</strong> is set to host its<br />

first major tournament at Bryan Park Golf and Conference Center<br />

since moving <strong>the</strong> headquarters to inside <strong>the</strong> gates of Bryan Park. The<br />

<strong>Carolinas</strong> Open Pro-Am benefitting <strong>the</strong> First Tee of <strong>the</strong> Triad will be<br />

held on <strong>May</strong> 7th, and tournament play for <strong>the</strong> 88th <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open<br />

Presented by BB&T will run from Tuesday - Thursday, <strong>May</strong> 8th-10th.<br />

Holding <strong>the</strong> 88th <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open presented by BB&T at Bryan Park<br />

will showcase <strong>the</strong> C<strong>PGA</strong>’s new home site and <strong>the</strong> strong relationship<br />

already formed between <strong>the</strong> C<strong>PGA</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Greensboro community.<br />

The <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open is <strong>the</strong> longest running tournament held by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Carolinas</strong> <strong>PGA</strong> <strong>Section</strong> and has been played annually since 1923<br />

when <strong>the</strong> <strong>Section</strong> was first founded in Greensboro, NC. Some of<br />

<strong>the</strong> best players in <strong>Carolinas</strong> <strong>PGA</strong> history including, Henry Picard,<br />

Johnny Palmer, Bobby Locke, Bob Boyd, and Kelly Mitchum have<br />

Set along scenic Lake Townsend, <strong>the</strong> Champions Course at Bryan Park was built to fulfill Mr. Joseph M. Bryan’s vision of having<br />

a national level golf course that was accessible to <strong>the</strong> public. The Champions Course at Bryan Park was designed by Rees<br />

Jones and features 97 sand traps, numerous grass bunkers and hollows, and seven holes along <strong>the</strong> lake. The Champions Course<br />

at Bryan Park was awarded Runner-up best new public golf course by Golf Digest in 1990.<br />

<strong>Carolinas</strong> <strong>PGA</strong> Tournament Director Cory Armstrong stated, “We are very excited about bringing <strong>the</strong> <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open to Bryan<br />

Park and <strong>the</strong> city of Greensboro. Bryan Park is a phenomenal 36-hole public facility. The Champions Course will challenge <strong>the</strong><br />

field while providing a great playing experience. The C<strong>PGA</strong> sincerely thanks its partner Branch Bank & Trust for its generous<br />

support. We look forward to a long-lasting relationship between BB&T, Bryan Park, <strong>the</strong> city of Greensboro, and our Association.”<br />

The tournament format for <strong>the</strong> 88th <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open Presented by BB&T is 54-hole stroke play with a cut to <strong>the</strong> low third and<br />

ties upon completion of 36 holes. The 88th <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open is an official <strong>2012</strong> C<strong>PGA</strong> Bob Boyd Player of <strong>the</strong> Year Points Challenge<br />

event.<br />

Spectators are always welcome and encouraged to come out and cheer on <strong>the</strong> field. Admission is free and first round tee times<br />

will be available at carolinas.pga.com on Thursday, <strong>May</strong> 3, <strong>2012</strong>. The 88th <strong>Carolinas</strong> Open Pro-Am benefitting charity is <strong>the</strong><br />

First Tee of <strong>the</strong> Triad. Last year, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Section</strong> was able to donate over $3,000 to <strong>the</strong> Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.<br />
