e brought about by bringing an external magnetic field
(dynamic microphones, headphones, loudspeakers, etc.)
into too close contact with stored magnetic media.(04.) {D=
accompanying material {E} * Materials other than the
principal form of the item which are available with the item
in hand and/or are intended to be used with it (e.g. the liner
notes of a sound recording).(12.) {D= Begleitmaterial; Es=
acetate {E} * 1) A salt formed by the combination of acetic
acid with an alkaline, earthy, or metallic base. 2) A
commonly used synonym in the U.S. for a lacquer disc;
see also cellulose acetate.51. {D= Azetat; Es= acetato; F=
acétate}.
acetate base {E} * A generic name for the group of
materials which are the more common supports of
magnetic and film media to which various recording
surfaces are attached. Most commonly used of this group
were/are cellulose diacetate and cellulose triacetate.
Cellulose triacetate, generally used for magnetic tape
recordings prior to the wide acceptance of polyester, tends
to break rather than stretch when subjected to excessive
stress. Since breaks can be mended easily and cleanly,
acetate backing offers some insurance against
mishandling, such as stretching. Mylar, a polyester,
however, has superior qualities as a backing, and acetate
is no longer used. In still photography and motion picture
films, a base composed principally of cellulose diacetate
or cellulose triacetate have been widely used for safety
film.(07.) {D= Azetatträger; Azetatträgerbasis; Es= soporte
de acetato; F= support acétate}.
acetate disc {E} * see lacquer disc {E}.
acetate film {E} * A generic term used for safety film.07.
{D= Azetatfilm; Sicherheitsfilm; Es= película de acetato; F=
film acétate; film d'acétate; pellicule acétate; film non
acetic acid {E} * 1) A chemical substance used by film
laboratories during the film developing and fixing process;
also used for bleaching, acetic acid is colourless and
4
smells like vinegar. Mixing readily with water, the corrosive
liquid in its pure form becomes a solid at temperatures
below 62°F. {D= Essigsäure; Es= ácido acético; F= acide
acétique}.
acetona {Es} * see acetone {E}.
acetone {E} * A highly flammable colourless solvent used
as a thinner in film processing solutions that contain
substances which do not dissolve readily when mixed with
water. It is also used for thinning the film cement that is
used in splicing motion picture film. {D= Azeton; Es=
acetona; F= acétone}.
acétone {F} * see acetone {E}.
made of crown glass and flint glass in order to reduce
chromatic aberration.10. {D= achromatisch (lens); Es=
acromático (lens); objetivo acromático; F= achromatique
material to one of less acidity when the two are stored in
contact with one another.24. {D= Säurewanderung; Es=
acoustical recording {E} * 1) The earliest commercially
practical method of recording by causing sound waves fed
to a recorder via a recording horn, to actuate a stylus
attached to a diaphragm; used until replaced by electrical
recording in the 1920s. The stylus bears on the recording
