Empty albums of varying numbers of sleeves and of differing sizes were also sold to afford better appearance and protection for individual records, which were generally sold in comparatively flimsy paper sleeves. Some early long-playing, multiple record sets were issued in albums, but most such sets have been issued in various types of inner sleeves inserted in boxes or slipcases.
