GLOSSARY
Access Prime time Airtime that comes just before "prime time" and introduces it
Production to order Transfer of all relevant rights not restricted as to time, geography or content,
according to which the producer sells the specific programme together
with the associated copyrights on the basis of a calculation agreed
with the station. The producer thus only assumes financial risk during the
development phase, depending on the respective programming content
and the anticipated opportunities and risks. The production phase only
starts after a production agreement is signed with a station that guarantees
to finance the production. Typically, interim financing for production
costs is borne in part by the producer during production, i.e. compensation
is paid by the station during and after the production phase. In production
to order, subsidiary rights, as they are called, are usually transferred
to the station. But in principle, they could also remain with the
producer. The more content rights that remain with the producer, the
more the model of production to order shifts to a model of licensed production
(transfer of rights limited in certain circumstance by time, geography
or content).
