“… all of us … make
up one body in Christ
and as different parts
we are all joined to
one another.”
Romans 12:4
“
We who gather at Corpus Christi are called into
the Body of Christ. Alone we acknowledge our
incompleteness; together we experience our
wholeness as a people of God. Our journey of
faith opens us up to opportunities for
collaborative ministry, the pursuit of justice,
and the celebration of our diversity.
Strengthened by the Spirit, we accept our
calling to be a church that affirms the grace of
our baptism into Christ’s death and
resurrection. We acknowledge that we share in
the transformation of the world through
Eucharist, reconciliation, and prophetic witness
to God’s justice and peace.”
Fifth Sunday of Easter
Next Week’s Readings: Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48; 1 John 4:7-10; John 15:9-17
Scripture Reflection
In today’s 1 st reading, we learn that the disciples were initially afraid of Paul, because they could not believe
that the man who had persecuted so many Christians was now a believer, one of them. Yet, through God’s
grace, he had been transformed. The disciples’ fears should remind us of our own. We often wonder if
individuals who had previously been against us are now really for us. Words of assurance are never sufficient;
only actions can truly reveal the heart’s intentions, a lesson that all of us can take seriously. Paul proved
himself to be a disciple by the way he conducted his life; how do we prove ourselves to be Christ’s followers in
this world?
CORPUS CHRISTI NEWS
From the Pastor,
This weekend we as a parish will gather together to
celebrate with two of our children as they receive their First
Communion.
I congratulate Fiona Nealis and Gianna Pilla on this special
day. I don’t know about all of you but I can remember my
own First Communion like it was yesterday. I remember it as
being a wonderful experience. And I do hope that our two
young ladies will have that same experience as they approach
the altar today and every time they gather at the table of the
Lord.
So let us pray for Gianna and Fiona and their families – let
us pray for all of us and the Church everywhere, that we might
always remain united to Jesus who is the True Vine.
Peace,
Fr. Marty
Congratulations to Fiona Nealis and Gianna Pilla!
Fiona and Gigi will make their First Communion this Sunday
at the 10:30 am mass. Please join in congratulating them at
their reception after church. Special thanks to Trish Pilla for
preparing Fiona and Gigi for the sacrament of Holy
Communion.
Faith Formation and Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Thank You’s
This Sunday is the last Sunday for Faith Formation classes and
Children’s Liturgy of the Word. We truly appreciate our
teachers and CLOW leaders, substitutes and other volunteers
for their dedication and help during this school year. “It takes
a village” to shepherd our children in their faith formation.
Thank you – Kristine Smets (1st grade); Trish Pilla (2nd
grade); Angie Bayani (3rd grade); Deb Baker (4th grade);
Vanessa Billings and Denise Duvall (5th grade); Andrew
Lacovara (6th grade); Martha and Mark Herbkersman (7th
grade) and Jane Danek (CLOW Coordinator).
Seminarian Collection
The annual collection is scheduled this weekend, May 5/6,
2012. This collection supports the archdiocese’s effort to
form and educate men to become priests. All money collected
goes directly to educational costs related to seminary
formation. Each seminarian is formed pastorally, humanly,
intellectually, and spiritually to serve the people of the
Archdiocese of Baltimore. It costs around $30,000.00 a year
to educate 1 seminarian, with the cost of education
Archdiocesan seminarians at over $1 million dollars per year.
Please be generous, this is one investment that provides years
of returns!
Interested in Serving on the Pastoral Council?
Do you want to contribute to our parish leadership in a
meaningful way? Consider being part of the Corpus Christi
Pastoral Council, a leadership body charged with providing
parish needs and developing plans for the future. The Pastoral
Council is always sensitive to the direction, cultural and
educational needs and spiritual development of our faith
community. If you are interested in contributing to this
ministry, please contact one of the following council members
after mass or at home: Ted Miles (410-419-1286), Michelle
