SECTION 1 – REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE<br />
The first step in the inspection <strong>of</strong> a vehicle should be a short review <strong>of</strong> the registration,<br />
plate and insurance certificate.<br />
Agreement Among Papers:<br />
Procedure:<br />
Inspect registration certificate, license plate, vehicle description and vehicle<br />
identification number or numbers. Compare to determine if there is proper<br />
agreement among them.<br />
Reject vehicle if:<br />
1. Vehicle description or identification number is not in agreement with registration<br />
certificate.<br />
2. Numbers on license plate are not in agreement with numbers on registration<br />
certificate.<br />
3. Registration certificate is lost or missing.<br />
Note: Vehicle registrations obtained via the <strong>Vermont</strong> DMV website are valid<br />
for a period <strong>of</strong> 10 days from the date <strong>of</strong> issue and serve as temporary<br />
registrations. These are permissible for inspection purposes.<br />
Plate Mounting and Condition:<br />
Procedure:<br />
1. Inspect license plate to see that it is securely mounted and are clean and clearly<br />
visible.<br />
2. Ensure license plate is mounted horizontally.<br />
3. Plate must be mounted in required position in order to be illuminated by plate<br />
light.<br />
4. Ensure plate is clearly visible.<br />
5. Ensure validation sticker is unobstructed and affixed in the lower right corner <strong>of</strong><br />
the license plate.<br />
