c. Hydraulic hoses and tubes for kinks, cracked, chafed or flattened or restricted<br />
sections and improper support; and<br />
d. Master cylinder for leakage.<br />
2. Check master cylinder rod for proper adjustment and test system for brake fluid<br />
leakage by applying moderate foot pressure to pedal and maintaining this pressure<br />
for at least one (1) minute. Check fluid level in master cylinder.<br />
Reject vehicle if:<br />
1. Leaks in master cylinder or wheel cylinders.<br />
2. Scraped hydraulic hoses; hydraulic hose, tubes or connections leaking, restricted,<br />
crimped, cracked or broken. Connecting lines not properly attached or supported to<br />
prevent damage or abrasion by contact with the frame, axle, other lines or any part<br />
<strong>of</strong> the vehicle. Pressure hoses not equal to manufacturer's original equipment.<br />
3. Master cylinder rod improperly adjusted.<br />
4. Tendency <strong>of</strong> brake pedal to move slowly toward applied position (indicating fluid<br />
leakage) while pressure is maintained on pedal/lever for one (1) minute.<br />
5. Fluid level in master cylinder perceptibly below full mark.<br />
BRAKE FLUID REQUIREMENTS<br />
<strong>Vermont</strong> law states no person may distribute or provide any fluid for use in the hydraulic<br />
brake system <strong>of</strong> a motor vehicle unless it meets the Society <strong>of</strong> Automotive Engineers<br />
Standards <strong>of</strong> 70 R1 or better and any container must bear a statement <strong>of</strong> its<br />
classification such as SAE 70 R1 or SAE 70 R3.<br />
