Avonhead Named in 1956 when
Waimairi County councillors
were keen to use a surplus
nameplate. Tintern Abbey is
situated four miles north of
Chepstow in
Monmouthshire, South
Wales. It had been intended
that Wai-iti Terrace be renamed
Tintern Avenue
because of its proximity to
Chepstowe Street (later
Chepstow Avenue).
[The newspaper source
appears to suggest that the
Avenue but this does not
appear in street directories.]
