JSA (Junior St<strong>at</strong>e of America)<br />

Description: The Junior St<strong>at</strong>e of America is a very entertaining and beneficial club n<strong>at</strong>ionwide in<br />

which members deb<strong>at</strong>e about fun AND serious <strong>to</strong>pics, discuss controversial issues during<br />

thought talks, and exercise their leadership skills, ability <strong>to</strong> think on their feet, and the ability <strong>to</strong><br />

communic<strong>at</strong>e their ideas during a variety of role-playing scenarios such as Crisis Scenarios,<br />

Mock Congresses, Quiz Bowls, and other fun events!<br />

Our meetings are fun, not <strong>to</strong>o long, and by coming <strong>to</strong> them, you can learn a lot of <strong>to</strong>ols which<br />

will help you throughout life.<br />

Meeting times: 8:20 a.m. Tuesdays<br />

Dues: $10<br />

MU ALPHA THETA<br />

Description: Mu Alpha Theta is the n<strong>at</strong>ional honorary m<strong>at</strong>h society. An induction ceremony is<br />

held in the fall for qualified students. The club particip<strong>at</strong>es in community service and presents<br />

the Michael Johns<strong>to</strong>n Memorial scholarship in the spring.<br />

Membership Requirements: Members are high school students who have <strong>at</strong> least junior<br />

standing and are enrolled in a fifth semester of college prepara<strong>to</strong>ry m<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics, provided th<strong>at</strong><br />

this work has been done with distinction. The grade average must be ninety-five (95) or above<br />

for regular classes, or ninety (90) or above for TAG or Pre AP/IB classes.<br />

Meeting Day & Time: 2nd Wednesday of each month, before and after school<br />

Time Commitment: Half hour meetings, fund raisers, and community service<br />

Dues: $20.00 per year for new members, and $10.00 for old members<br />

Fund-raiser: One sale per year, either candy sales and/or book sox sale<br />
