ELECTIVES<br />

This section describes activities th<strong>at</strong> are electives. These electives require a class period in a<br />

student's schedule.<br />

These classes count <strong>to</strong>ward gradu<strong>at</strong>ion requirements. Some may fulfill the P.E. and/or Fine Arts<br />

requirements. Students should check with their counselor during registr<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

AIR FORCE JR. R.O.T.C.<br />

Instruc<strong>to</strong>rs: Lt.Col. Juste Sanchez and MSgt. Mark Janik<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: This is a unique elective class offering 2 areas of study--Aerospoace Science<br />

and Leadership Development and is open <strong>to</strong> student in grades 9-12. Aerospace classroom studies<br />

center on various aspects of flying, the science of avi<strong>at</strong>ion and space. Leadership Development focus<br />

on Air Force cus<strong>to</strong>ms and courtesies, and the development of group leadership skills and teamwork.<br />

Fourth year cadets are involved in managing the Corps. This hands-on experience affords the<br />

cadets the opportunity <strong>to</strong> put the theories of previous leadership courses in<strong>to</strong> practice. All cadets<br />

have the opportunity <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in the spring and fall field trips <strong>to</strong> military bases and<br />

aeronautical facilities. Cadets receive either PE or Elective credit for enrollment in this class.<br />

Cadets have many opportunities <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in community service hours th<strong>at</strong> are very important<br />

for college applic<strong>at</strong>ions. Each year a joint Military Ball is held with other JROTC units in the area.<br />

All activities are free <strong>to</strong> active cadets.<br />

Cadets are may choose <strong>to</strong> join the available extracurricular activities and teams held before and<br />

after school: drill team, color guard team, saber team, rocketry team, and physical fitness team.<br />

Teams have the opportunity <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in competitions and ceremonies throughout the year.<br />

Other activities cadets enjoy are Tap-In Ceremony and Family Day in the Fall Semester, carwashes<br />

<strong>at</strong> various times of the year, and the End of Year Banquet in May.<br />

Students help with the Christmas greenery Sale in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber/November time frame. They<br />

Scholarships are awarded through the JROTC Parents Booster Club <strong>at</strong> the End of Year<br />

Banquet.<br />

Cadets may also apply and try for membership in The Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS).<br />

This is an academic honor society of ROTC.<br />

BAND<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The Warrior Marching Band is the largest single organiz<strong>at</strong>ion on campus. It<br />

performs <strong>at</strong> all varsity football games, <strong>at</strong> least two contests, and occasional guest appearances. The<br />

marching band is open <strong>to</strong> any student who has passed a proficiency audition, usually held in the spring.<br />

Rehearsals begin in l<strong>at</strong>e July or early August, and then are held before or after school during the football<br />

season. There are four concert bands, which meet in the school day both semesters. Placement in these<br />

bands is also by audition.. Students typically need <strong>to</strong> have prior instrumental musical experience before<br />

they can audition. Students in the band program must ―double-block‖ band unless there is a serious<br />

curriculum conflict approved by the principal and the head band direc<strong>to</strong>r.<br />

Band members are required <strong>to</strong> <strong>at</strong>tend all rehearsals and performances. After football season, each member<br />

will normally <strong>at</strong>tend a ―sectional‖ rehearsal before or after school once per week.<br />

Costs: Uniforms are provided by RRISD, but informal band shirts, marching shoes, tux shirts, etc. must<br />

be purchased by the student. Priv<strong>at</strong>e lessons are encouraged, and the fees for these are set by the RRISD<br />

Administr<strong>at</strong>ion. A fee for uniform cleaning of approxim<strong>at</strong>ely $50 is assessed as well.<br />

Fund-raisers: There are normally two major Fund-raisers during the year. The proceeds go <strong>to</strong>ward each<br />

individual’s trip expenses. (The band takes a major trip every other year.)<br />

Additional Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The <strong>Westwood</strong> Area Band Boosters invites all parents <strong>to</strong> be active in this very<br />

important parent organiz<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

BAND COLORGUARD<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The Color Guard is also a part of the Warrior Marching Band. In the fall<br />

it also performs <strong>at</strong> all varsity football games, <strong>at</strong> least two contests, and occasional guest<br />

appearances. A colorguard is a performance group, much like the dance team, except in addition<br />

<strong>to</strong> movement, guard performers use equipment such as flags, rifles, and sabers in their shows.<br />

During the spring season, the guard particip<strong>at</strong>es in a separ<strong>at</strong>e activity called "Winterguard". This<br />

is an indoor activity in which guards perform <strong>to</strong> recorded music. If you like <strong>to</strong> be in the spotlight<br />

and like the idea of performing in front of 5000 plus fans each week, come join us.<br />

Costs: Costs vary, but typically members pay about $150 per season. Financial assistance is<br />

available <strong>to</strong> those who need it: NOBODY WILL BE TURNED AWAY DUE TO FINANCIAL<br />

LIMITATIONS.<br />

<strong>to</strong>ward each individual's guard cost or trip expenses. (The band and guard take a major trip every<br />

other year.)<br />

Who can join colorguard? ANYONE! Both guys and girls are welcome, and no previous<br />

experience is necessary.<br />

CHEERLEADERS<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: Interested girls and boys need <strong>to</strong> obtain an applic<strong>at</strong>ion from the main office. After<br />

returning this form, they will <strong>at</strong>tend an orient<strong>at</strong>ion with their parents. Prior <strong>to</strong> the actual tryout, several<br />

workshops will be held where the students learn the cheers and routines. Tryouts are closed. Actual<br />

selections are made by five impartial, qualified judges. Although the school provides one uniform,<br />

cheerleaders must provide all additional uniforms.<br />

Summer camp is also required. Individual cost <strong>to</strong> the cheerleader will not exceed $450. Summer practices<br />

prior <strong>to</strong> camp and prior <strong>to</strong> the beginning of school may be called by the coach. Cheerleaders practice daily<br />

during the class period as well as after school. They will be cheering <strong>at</strong> games approxim<strong>at</strong>ely twice a week<br />

during the fall and winter sports. Two years of cheerleading fulfills the one and a half P.E. credit<br />

requirement<br />

CHORAL MUSIC<br />

Purpose: The purpose of the Choral Department is <strong>to</strong> promote enthusiasm and interest in vocal<br />

music.<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: There are five choirs in the department, including the Honors Choir,<br />

Honors Concert Mixed, Women’s and Men’s Choirs. Placement in the Honors Choir and Mixed<br />

is by approval of the direc<strong>to</strong>r.<br />

<strong>Activities</strong>: District, Region, Area, and St<strong>at</strong>e auditions sponsored by the Texas Music Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

NEWSPAPER<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The Horizon is a monthly newspaper published by <strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

students utilizing the desk<strong>to</strong>p publishing system. Students must have advisor approval before becoming<br />

staff members. Staff members are required <strong>to</strong> write, edit, design lay-outs and sell ads.<br />

The Edi<strong>to</strong>r-in-Chief is chosen by the newspaper advisor. Section edi<strong>to</strong>rs are chosen by the Edi<strong>to</strong>r-in-Chief<br />

and advisor.<br />

Students are enrolled in Honors Journalism: Prior sponsor approval is required. There is a Desk<strong>to</strong>p<br />

Publishing class offered <strong>to</strong> staff members th<strong>at</strong> will s<strong>at</strong>isfy their computer credit.<br />

Students are required <strong>to</strong> have Journalism I, an 80 overall average, a "B" in English, and typing skills.<br />

Newspaper production counts as an elective <strong>to</strong>ward gradu<strong>at</strong>ion requirements.<br />

Students are expected <strong>to</strong> meet their copy deadline, which usually requires extra time after school.<br />

The newspaper staff competes <strong>at</strong> the U.I.L. Press Conference in the spring.<br />

Staff writers also compete on an individual basis for U.I.L<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The <strong>Westwood</strong> Orchestra welcomes all students who have had <strong>at</strong> least<br />

one year of training on violin, viola, cello, or string bass. There are no beginning level courses<br />

for strings <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong>.<br />

Orchestra students are required <strong>to</strong> <strong>at</strong>tend all scheduled rehearsals and performances. All<br />

Orchestra performances are manda<strong>to</strong>ry, graded projects and are a significant part of each six<br />

weeks grade.<br />

There are three Orchestras <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong>. Each ensemble has its own unique personality and<br />

―vibe‖. Members of all three groups particip<strong>at</strong>e in UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest, UIL<br />

Solo and Ensemble Contest, Region Orchestra Contest, as well as a host of other activities. The<br />

names of the three Orchestras are:<br />

Concert Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.<br />

<strong>School</strong> Instruments – There are a limited number of school-owned violas, cellos and string<br />

basses for the students <strong>to</strong> use. We do not have violins. There is a $50 fee <strong>to</strong> use the instrument<br />

for the entire school year.<br />

Concert Orchestra – About 80% of incoming 9 th graders begin their <strong>Westwood</strong> Orchestra career<br />

in the Concert Orchestra. This ensemble also has 10 th , 11 th and 12 th graders in it.<br />

This Orchestra does not have a weekly after-school rehearsal oblig<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

No audition is necessary <strong>to</strong> become a member of the Concert Orchestra.<br />

Philharmonic Orchestra – This ensemble is advanced. Students who enter this Orchestra<br />

are already playing in 3 rd position and above. Violas should be able <strong>to</strong> read treble clef and<br />

cellos should be able <strong>to</strong> play in tenor clef. Students are mostly in 10 th -12 th grades.<br />

There is a manda<strong>to</strong>ry after-school rehearsal every Wednesday for the Philharmonic Orchestra.<br />

Entry in<strong>to</strong> the Philharmonic Orchestra is by audition only.<br />

Symphony Orchestra – This is the most advanced Orchestra <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong>. The majority of the<br />

students are in the 11 th and 12 th grades. In an average year there are only 3-5 Freshmen accepted<br />

in<strong>to</strong> the group. Students in the Symphony are playing in 3 rd -7 th positions, violas are able <strong>to</strong><br />

sight-read in treble clef, and cellos are able <strong>to</strong> sight-read in tenor clef and play in treble<br />

clef.<br />

There is a manda<strong>to</strong>ry after-school rehearsal every Tuesday for the Symphony Orchestra.<br />

Entry in<strong>to</strong> the Symphony Orchestra is by audition only.<br />

Audition Inform<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

There are three parts <strong>to</strong> the audition.<br />

1.) Two Octave Major Scales in these keys: C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb, and Ab. These scales can<br />

be found in ―Essentials for Strings‖ by Gerald Anderson. Tempo is Quarter note = 80. Play<br />

eighth notes, separ<strong>at</strong>e bows. Do NOT slur. Do NOT play 3 or 4 octave scales.<br />

2.) A prepared solo of your choice. Students should prepare <strong>at</strong> least 2 minutes of a solo, but not<br />

more than 5 minutes. Please choose a piece th<strong>at</strong> shows your technical ability. You may play part<br />

of a slow piece and part of a fast piece if you wish. Students auditioning for the Symphony or<br />

Philharmonic Orchestra should choose a piece th<strong>at</strong> demonstr<strong>at</strong>es their skill in playing in 3 rd<br />

position and above.<br />

3.) Sight-reading – You will be given music <strong>to</strong> sight-read.<br />

PROS (PEERS REACHING OUT AND SHARING)<br />

Description: PROS is a part of the Texas PAL (Peer Assistance & Leadership) program which trains high<br />

school juniors and seniors <strong>to</strong> serve the community in a variety of ways. <strong>Westwood</strong> PROS are selected after<br />

a rigorous applic<strong>at</strong>ion process and agree <strong>to</strong> serve as peer role models <strong>to</strong> other students. A majority of the<br />

PROS time is spent working with younger students in the elementary and middle schools which feed in<strong>to</strong><br />

<strong>Westwood</strong>. PROS might work one-on-one with a student, help a teacher in a classroom, tu<strong>to</strong>r a small<br />

group of students, or be a friend <strong>to</strong> a student identified as ―<strong>at</strong> risk.‖ PROS have an annual weekend retre<strong>at</strong><br />

and have been asked <strong>to</strong> facilit<strong>at</strong>e <strong>at</strong> large scale events such as the Texas PAL Convention and the TATU<br />

Youth Summit in the spring. PROS is a st<strong>at</strong>e credit course which meets during the school day.<br />

Membership Requirements: Members are selected in the spring semester of each year. Students must be<br />

sophomores or juniors <strong>to</strong> apply.<br />

Meeting Day & Time: Students must be able <strong>to</strong> take the PROS class (usually during 7 th block and ―C‖<br />

Lunch) as an elective during the school day.<br />

Commitment: Students must be committed <strong>to</strong> fulfilling all responsibilities of the PROS, which may<br />

change from year <strong>to</strong> year depending on community and school needs, as well as maintaining a healthy<br />

lifestyle which includes being <strong>to</strong>bacco, drug, and alcohol free.<br />

Fees: Total of $120.00, which can be waived for financial need ($80 Retre<strong>at</strong>; $30 T-Shirt; $10 Pizza<br />

Parties)<br />

Fund-raiser: Two fundraisers each year support PROS programs, projects, retre<strong>at</strong>, and m<strong>at</strong>erials for our<br />

services (particip<strong>at</strong>ion in any fundraisers is required).<br />

SUN DANCERS<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: Sun Dancers are a dance and drill team th<strong>at</strong> performs <strong>at</strong> football and basketball<br />

games. They also compete with other drill teams and put on a spring dance program.<br />

Interested girls may obtain an applic<strong>at</strong>ion from the Sun Dancer Direc<strong>to</strong>r in November. Auditions are<br />

usually the first Friday in December. Workshops will be held <strong>to</strong> teach the tryout dances. Tryouts are<br />

closed, and selections are made by impartial, qualified judges. Membership ranges from 45 - 60 members.<br />

The school provides the uniform for the Sun Dancers. Each girl must pay for costumes, travel and summer<br />

camp which <strong>to</strong>tals approxim<strong>at</strong>ely $600 <strong>to</strong> $800. Some of this expense is defrayed by Fund-raisers and<br />

business sponsorships. Practice is held daily during the school year from 7:30am through first period.<br />

During the summer, girls <strong>at</strong>tend one week of camp, 3 days of jazz camp, then resume two weeks prior <strong>to</strong><br />

the start of school. Contests require additional practice and weekend competition.<br />

Sun Dancers receive a fine arts credit in the fall and spring, with a PE waiver for the fall. Freshmen are<br />

not eligible for membership, but are encouraged <strong>to</strong> audition in the fall of their freshman year. A Pre-Drill<br />

class is offered <strong>to</strong> Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors.<br />

THEATRE<br />

Purpose: The purpose of the The<strong>at</strong>re Department is <strong>to</strong> promote enthusiasm for and particip<strong>at</strong>ion in all<br />

aspects of live the<strong>at</strong>re production.<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: There are several sections of The<strong>at</strong>re I, which gives a general the<strong>at</strong>re arts<br />

overview, and fulfills the Fine Arts gradu<strong>at</strong>ion requirement.<br />

Students interested in further study may take The<strong>at</strong>re II, or may audition for The<strong>at</strong>re Production. In<br />

addition, Technical The<strong>at</strong>re is offered <strong>at</strong> the beginning and advanced levels. The Fine Arts Academy, for<br />

which the students must apply when they enter <strong>Westwood</strong>, offers courses in acting, children's the<strong>at</strong>re,<br />

Shakespearean performance, musical the<strong>at</strong>re, and lighting and stage design.<br />

Open Auditions are held regularly for productions both within the classes and after school. There are<br />

several productions <strong>at</strong> the PAC and several in the Black Box <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong>. Senior students write and direct<br />

their own one-acts. Advanced students compete in U.I.L. One-Act Play contest in the spring.<br />

<strong>Activities</strong>: All the<strong>at</strong>re students are expected <strong>to</strong> <strong>at</strong>tend live the<strong>at</strong>re productions on a regular basis; all<br />

productions of the department require manda<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>at</strong>tendance. Technical The<strong>at</strong>re students are required <strong>to</strong><br />

work on stage crews for <strong>Westwood</strong> shows.<br />

Drama Club: Drama Club meets after school weekly <strong>to</strong> arrange the<strong>at</strong>re visits, student productions and<br />

annual Costume Ball.<br />

WARRIOR PRIDE<br />

Description: Warrior Pride is an exciting dance performance team th<strong>at</strong> includes <strong>Westwood</strong><br />

students in grades 9-12 who perform <strong>at</strong> an intermedi<strong>at</strong>e level and want <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in a dance<br />

team with a minimal outside time commitment and cost. Because of its structure, Warrior Pride<br />

allows students <strong>to</strong> balance their passion for dance with time for other academic or extracurricular<br />

activities. Beyond enhancing dance technique and fostering good sportsmanship, the team is<br />

committed <strong>to</strong> building self-discipline and self-confidence for each of its members. Auditions are<br />

held twice each year (December and April).<br />

Time Commitment: Pride members have four team performances each semester, and most<br />

rehearsals take place during the single-blocked class time. Two extra morning practice is held<br />

the week of Homecoming <strong>to</strong> rehearse for the halftime performance with the <strong>Westwood</strong> Band and<br />

the Sun Dancers, and one extra evening rehearsal is held in the spring <strong>to</strong> prepare for Escapade<br />

(the annual show). Members can also particip<strong>at</strong>e in community service projects and social events<br />

each semester.<br />

Dues: $40 per semester. WHS provides one uniform <strong>to</strong>p. Members are responsible for<br />

purchasing basic dance <strong>at</strong>tire and other team accessories. (Cost of membership not <strong>to</strong> exceed<br />

YEARBOOK<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The Heritage staff produces the yearbook for <strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>. Students<br />

are given a wide variety of choices in yearbook production such as taking pictures, writing and editing<br />

copy and designing layout.<br />

Students enrolled in Advanced Journalism: There is an Honors Class offered for edi<strong>to</strong>rs. Prior sponsor<br />

approval is required. There is a Desk<strong>to</strong>p Publishing class offered <strong>to</strong> staff members th<strong>at</strong> will s<strong>at</strong>isfy their<br />

computer credit.<br />

All students are required <strong>to</strong> sell five ads and <strong>to</strong> meet copy deadlines, which often involves staying after<br />

school.<br />

Yearbook Production counts as an elective <strong>to</strong>ward gradu<strong>at</strong>ion requirements. All students who want <strong>to</strong> take<br />

Yearbook Production should have typing skills, an overall average of 80, a "B" in English and have taken<br />

Journalism I. All students must have advisor approval before becoming a staff member.<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: Athletics is an elective and requires a class period in a student's schedule.<br />

One and a half years of <strong>at</strong>hletics fulfill the one and a half-year PE requirement.<br />

All <strong>at</strong>hletes are required <strong>to</strong> have a physical and must present all completed paperwork before<br />

being allowed <strong>to</strong> practice.<br />

Multiple Sport Athletes: Any student who plans <strong>to</strong> play more than one sport should sign up for<br />

the sport which occurs first during the school year. A schedule change may be required when<br />

signing up for the second semester sport.<br />

Selection of Teams: It is sometimes necessary <strong>to</strong> cut students from various sports. In this event,<br />

the student will be assigned <strong>to</strong> a Physical Educ<strong>at</strong>ion class th<strong>at</strong> meets <strong>at</strong> the same class period as<br />

the <strong>at</strong>hletic period.<br />

Off Season: The off season program consists of conditioning and weight training geared <strong>to</strong><br />

individual sports. The training takes place during the <strong>at</strong>hletic class period.<br />

Selection Process: Spring tryouts start the season on the last Monday in January. Basketball<br />

players tryout after basketball season. Freshmen are not allowed in the off-season class, but there<br />

is a Freshman team.<br />

Player Expenses: Players provide shoes, glove and cap. Pictures, travel shirt, and summer<br />

General Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: The following regul<strong>at</strong>ions apply <strong>to</strong> students running for student council<br />

office, class office, and student council represent<strong>at</strong>ive:<br />

Nomin<strong>at</strong>ions: Each candid<strong>at</strong>e must submit their name <strong>to</strong> the advisor <strong>at</strong> the appropri<strong>at</strong>e time.<br />

Each candid<strong>at</strong>e must be passing all subjects, maintain a 75% grade average and have an<br />

acceptable discipline record. In addition, <strong>to</strong> run for a student council or class office, the student<br />

must be an active member of student council.<br />

Campaigning: No campaign m<strong>at</strong>erial may be distributed before the d<strong>at</strong>e specified in the<br />

election schedule.<br />

The assistant principal must approve all campaign m<strong>at</strong>erials, including posters and but<strong>to</strong>ns.<br />

Campaign m<strong>at</strong>erials must be removed one day following the election.<br />

Elections: Elections have both a popular election and an interview portion, and are usually held<br />

in the spring.<br />

PRINCIPAL'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE<br />

Membership requirements: The committee consists of the president of all student<br />

organiz<strong>at</strong>ions. Each president may select another student <strong>to</strong> <strong>at</strong>tend meetings. The selected<br />

student does not have <strong>to</strong> be in a leadership position or be a member of a particular organiz<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Function: The Advisory Committee serves as a communic<strong>at</strong>ion vehicle between the student<br />

body, the teachers and the administr<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Meetings: Meetings are the first Thursday of each month <strong>at</strong> 8:15 a.m. <strong>to</strong> consider school issues.<br />

Breakfast is usually served.<br />

DESCRIPTION: The Student Council is<br />

the "umbrella" organiz<strong>at</strong>ion for all student<br />

groups and activities. The council promotes<br />

student, faculty and community involvement<br />

in school activities and community service<br />

projects. Homecoming activities, Spirit<br />

weeks, Spring Fling, Student Council<br />

committees, and faculty appreci<strong>at</strong>ion are just<br />

a few of the many student council<br />

responsibilities. In addition, the Student<br />

Council sells spirit links and t-shirts and<br />

holds a male beauty pageant in the Spring-<br />

Mr. Warrior.<br />

MEMBERSHIP: The student council is<br />

composed of eight elected officers, the five<br />

class officers of each class, 10 class<br />

<strong>Westwood</strong> Student Council is open <strong>to</strong> all<br />

students. To be a member, students must<br />

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE CLUB<br />

Description: The ASL Club has monthly activities (silent dinners, swim parties, potlucks, etc).<br />

Many club members are involved with signing the N<strong>at</strong>ional Anthem <strong>at</strong> home football games. The<br />

ASL Club hallway decor<strong>at</strong>ions for homecoming are consistently one of the best in the school and<br />

focus on themes rel<strong>at</strong>ing <strong>to</strong> ASL and Deaf Culture. An "elite" part of the club is the ASL Honor<br />

Society. Like any other honor society it recognizes outstanding students with high academic<br />

achievements and a dedic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>to</strong> being involved with the Deaf. Honor Society gradu<strong>at</strong>es earn<br />

honor cords and medals <strong>to</strong> wear <strong>at</strong> gradu<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

UIL COMPUTER SCIENCE TEAM<br />

Description: UIL Computer Science offers students the opportunity <strong>to</strong> strengthen their understanding of<br />

a wide range of computing concepts as well as hone their individual Java programming skills. In addition<br />

<strong>to</strong> the weekly practices, students can compete for individual and team awards in a number of written and<br />

hands-on programming competitions throughout the year. The<br />

<strong>to</strong>p students in these meets will earn the honor of representing<br />

<strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>at</strong> the District UIL meet in March. Enrollment in a<br />

Computer Science course is encouraged, but not required for<br />

particip<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Meetings: Weekly practices begin in September and are held every Thursday after school. Students who<br />

demonstr<strong>at</strong>e a clear commitment <strong>to</strong> the team are given preference when deciding who represents<br />

<strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>at</strong> the UIL meets and other programming competitions held throughout the year.<br />

Costs: Students who go <strong>to</strong> practice meets and programming competitions must supply their own meals<br />

and sometimes their own transport<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

CULTURE CLUB<br />

Purpose: The <strong>Westwood</strong> Culture Club explores the cultures of all the students <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

and in the Austin area <strong>to</strong> help educ<strong>at</strong>e the student body about these cultures. The club does a wide variety<br />

of activities including: going out <strong>to</strong> e<strong>at</strong> <strong>at</strong> ethnic restaurants, <strong>at</strong>tending music concerts and plays, putting<br />

on dance acts or plays in the <strong>Westwood</strong> Multicultural show, putting on workshops, putting up displays of<br />

cultural inform<strong>at</strong>ion, discussing various religions and cus<strong>to</strong>ms, and hosting a ―world music‖ dance.<br />

DECA<br />

Description: DECA is an associ<strong>at</strong>ion of marketing students with over 185,000 n<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

members. <strong>Westwood</strong> DECA is n<strong>at</strong>ionally recognized as one of the <strong>to</strong>p chapters in the n<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

<strong>Westwood</strong> DECA is also home <strong>to</strong> the current Texas DECA President, Yingnan Xu.<br />

organize drama activities, improv show, one-act plays, and <strong>at</strong>tend community productions.<br />

Description: Help make <strong>Westwood</strong> as green as it can be! Students will work <strong>to</strong>gether <strong>to</strong> cre<strong>at</strong>e<br />

a more sustainable campus with plastic bottle recycling, energy conserv<strong>at</strong>ion, n<strong>at</strong>ive plant<br />

landscaping, vegetable gardening. They help <strong>to</strong> educ<strong>at</strong>e the campus and community by hosting<br />

guest speakers, cre<strong>at</strong>ing displays, and carrying out campaigns. Students will also go on outings<br />

<strong>to</strong> learn and <strong>to</strong> perform community service, and have fun outdoors!<br />

and playing trivia games. Any student th<strong>at</strong> is interested in learning more about the culture of the<br />

A LITERARY AND ARTS MAGAZINE<br />

Description: <strong>Westwood</strong>’s literary and arts magazine has won numerous awards on a n<strong>at</strong>ional level. The<br />

staff raises funds for public<strong>at</strong>ion of accepted work from school-wide submissions in poetry, art, fiction,<br />

drama, pho<strong>to</strong>graphy, and music. After judging the 500+ entries, form<strong>at</strong>ting on computers and layout<br />

design prepares the lit mag for public<strong>at</strong>ion. Staffers do NOT receive special consider<strong>at</strong>ion in publishing<br />

their cre<strong>at</strong>ive work.<br />

Description: The German Club is open <strong>to</strong> students with an interest in German. Members may<br />

dinner and on the Trail of Lights as part of the Christmas season festivities. Every other year are<br />

offered the opportunity <strong>to</strong> travel <strong>to</strong> Germany for a week. Students may particip<strong>at</strong>e in extracuricular<br />

activities such as folk-dancing, choir, and polka band.<br />

HOSA (Health Occup<strong>at</strong>ions Students of America)<br />

DESCRIPTION - HOSA is an organiz<strong>at</strong>ion of students th<strong>at</strong> are interested in HEALTH CARE.<br />

It is a student led organiz<strong>at</strong>ion th<strong>at</strong> focuses is on leadership, community service activities and<br />

clinical rot<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

H.O.P.E.<br />

Description: H.O.P.E. - Helping Our Peers Excel is an extra-curricular organiz<strong>at</strong>ion designed<br />

for 10-12 th grade students who are committed <strong>to</strong> healthy lifestyles and would like <strong>to</strong> men<strong>to</strong>r the<br />

freshman students who have requested an upper classmen ―big brother‖ or ―big sister‖. HOPE<br />

members meet with their freshman ―LINK‖ <strong>at</strong> least once weekly during the first semester of<br />

school and assist them in their transition in<strong>to</strong> high school by encouraging the freshman <strong>to</strong> get<br />

connected <strong>to</strong> the school by joining groups or <strong>at</strong>tending extra-curricular activities. During the 2 nd<br />

semester, HOPE members concentr<strong>at</strong>e on community service, where each HOPE member<br />

volunteers for <strong>at</strong> least 10 hours on an approved group project.<br />

Membership Requirements: HOPE members must be committed <strong>to</strong> healthy lifestyles and sign<br />

a written contract <strong>to</strong> abstain from all substance use or abuse. Anyone interested in applying for<br />

HOPE should listen for announcements during the month of February, and will need <strong>to</strong> complete<br />

an applic<strong>at</strong>ion packet including peer and faculty references, along with parent consent.<br />

Members must also <strong>at</strong>tend a monthly meeting th<strong>at</strong> is offered before and after school. If the<br />

member misses more than two meetings or does not complete the community service<br />

requirement, they may be asked <strong>to</strong> step down from men<strong>to</strong>ring freshman. While men<strong>to</strong>ring<br />

freshman, the HOPE member must complete a weekly contact sheet outlining the n<strong>at</strong>ure of their<br />

visit.<br />

Costs: Each HOPE member pays $20.00 when they are accepted. This fee is applied <strong>to</strong>ward the<br />

cost of a shirt they may order a shirt after they have received notific<strong>at</strong>ion of their acceptance and<br />

any fees associ<strong>at</strong>ed with homecoming hall decor<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

INTERACT<br />

Description: Interact is a service club for young people ages 14-18. Interact is self-governing<br />

and self supporting community service organiz<strong>at</strong>ion. Interac<strong>to</strong>rs are given the opportunity <strong>to</strong><br />

develop leadership skills while learning the value of teamwork through contributions <strong>to</strong> the<br />

community. Interact members are doers and problem solvers working <strong>to</strong> improve the quality of<br />

life and make new friends. There are <strong>at</strong> minimum of 2 service projects a year, with the<br />

opportunity for many others. Members realize the gre<strong>at</strong> s<strong>at</strong>isfaction from helping others while<br />

having some serious fun. Interact is sponsored by the Northwest Rotary.<br />

associ<strong>at</strong>ion for IB juniors and seniors. The organiz<strong>at</strong>ion meets monthly or as needed <strong>to</strong> plan and<br />

Description: The Junior St<strong>at</strong>e of America is a very entertaining and beneficial club n<strong>at</strong>ionwide in<br />

which members deb<strong>at</strong>e about fun AND serious <strong>to</strong>pics, discuss controversial issues during<br />

thought talks, and exercise their leadership skills, ability <strong>to</strong> think on their feet, and the ability <strong>to</strong><br />

communic<strong>at</strong>e their ideas during a variety of role-playing scenarios such as Crisis Scenarios,<br />

Mock Congresses, Quiz Bowls, and other fun events!<br />

Our meetings are fun, not <strong>to</strong>o long, and by coming <strong>to</strong> them, you can learn a lot of <strong>to</strong>ols which<br />

will help you throughout life.<br />

Description: Mu Alpha Theta is the n<strong>at</strong>ional honorary m<strong>at</strong>h society. An induction ceremony is<br />

the Michael Johns<strong>to</strong>n Memorial scholarship in the spring.<br />

Membership Requirements: Members are high school students who have <strong>at</strong> least junior<br />

this work has been done with distinction. The grade average must be ninety-five (95) or above<br />

for regular classes, or ninety (90) or above for TAG or Pre AP/IB classes.<br />

NATIONAL FRENCH HONOR SOCIETY (NFHS)<br />

Description: The aim of this organiz<strong>at</strong>ion is <strong>to</strong> stimul<strong>at</strong>e interest in the study of French, <strong>to</strong><br />

promote high standards of scholarship, <strong>to</strong> new and scholastic <strong>at</strong>tainments, <strong>to</strong><br />

cre<strong>at</strong>e enthusiasm for and an understanding of francophone culture and<br />

civiliz<strong>at</strong>ion, <strong>to</strong> promote and perpetu<strong>at</strong>e intern<strong>at</strong>ional friendship.<br />

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY<br />

Description: The N<strong>at</strong>ional Honor Society is an honorary service organiz<strong>at</strong>ion comprised of<br />

selected students who have excelled in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service.<br />

Members must maintain a 4.0 GPA and fulfill the requirement of ten service hours per year. A<br />

minimum of five hours must be directly sponsored by <strong>Westwood</strong> NHS. Additional hours may be<br />

earned by service <strong>to</strong> other community organiz<strong>at</strong>ions within NHS <strong>guide</strong>lines. NHS sponsors a<br />

tu<strong>to</strong>rial service and works with non-profit community organiz<strong>at</strong>ions. Eligible students apply and<br />

are tapped for membership in their junior and/or senior year(s).<br />

Membership Requirements: Candid<strong>at</strong>es must have a 90% average in L<strong>at</strong>in for the school year,<br />

and must be a member of the N<strong>at</strong>ional Junior Classical League. They should be actively<br />

involved in <strong>Westwood</strong> JCL, missing no more than 2 regular meetings and 2 committee meetings.<br />

They must also display qualities of good character and good citizenship.<br />

NATIONAL SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY<br />

Description: The N<strong>at</strong>ional Spanish Honor Society is an honorary organiz<strong>at</strong>ion for outstanding students of<br />

the Spanish language.<br />

The purposes of NSHS are:<br />

1. To honor students for their achievement in the study of Spanish.<br />

2. To encourage students <strong>to</strong> continue their studies of the Spanish language and culture.<br />

3. To provide students opportunities <strong>to</strong> use their abilities <strong>to</strong> serve the community and school.<br />

Membership Requirements: Students may apply for membership during the fall semester of Spanish III,<br />

IV, or V. Students must have maintained an outstanding average in Spanish for the previous 3 consecutive<br />

Fund-raiser: Candy sales. Funds are used <strong>to</strong> pay for induction and <strong>to</strong> give scholarships <strong>to</strong><br />

qualified gradu<strong>at</strong>ing seniors. In addition, funds raised will allow students <strong>to</strong> provide educ<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

m<strong>at</strong>erials and resources <strong>to</strong> the Spanish department <strong>to</strong> benefit future Spanish students.<br />

OUTREACH CLUB<br />

Description: Student led community service club. Student officers and other students<br />

introduce service projects or events and members volunteer for the ones they would like <strong>to</strong><br />

particip<strong>at</strong>e <strong>at</strong>. Outreach members focus on community service through on-going commitments<br />

<strong>to</strong> such organiz<strong>at</strong>ions as Salv<strong>at</strong>ion Army, Austin S<strong>at</strong>e Hospital, Hill Country Ministries, Austin<br />

St<strong>at</strong>e <strong>School</strong>, the annual AIDS Walk, the Walk of the Roses, Habit<strong>at</strong> for Humanity, PTSA<br />

Open House, and many other service opportunities which need volunteers during the year. In<br />

addition <strong>to</strong> service locally and regionally, Outreach members particip<strong>at</strong>e in most school<br />

activities and events (Homecoming, etc.) and in intern<strong>at</strong>ional service, <strong>to</strong>o. New activities are<br />

welcomed and suggested by the membership. Not only do Outreach members get volunteer<br />

hours, but also an awareness about wh<strong>at</strong>’s happening in the city of Austin!<br />

Time Commitment: As much time as you choose <strong>to</strong> commit! Members earn points for<br />

<strong>at</strong>tendance <strong>at</strong> meetings, volunteer service, and other contributions. Students log their own<br />

hours of service but a student officer who is present <strong>at</strong> the event signs it.<br />

Dues: $5.00 per year. Outreach t-shirt is $8.00 (optional)<br />

Fund-raisers: As needed. Sometimes dues and T-shirts provide enough income <strong>to</strong> use for<br />

service events and occasional club celebr<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

ROBOTICS CLUB<br />

Description: The <strong>Westwood</strong> Robotics Team particip<strong>at</strong>es in the<br />

"Capi<strong>to</strong>l BEST" and "FIRST" robotics competitions in the fall and<br />

spring, respectively. Each of these competitions consists of a sixweek<br />

build session th<strong>at</strong> culmin<strong>at</strong>es in a sport-like <strong>to</strong>urnament th<strong>at</strong> pits<br />

our robot against those of other schools from throughout the region.<br />

Through these competitions, club members have the opportunity <strong>to</strong><br />

develop a wide variety of skills ranging from engineering, design, and<br />

programming <strong>to</strong> promotion and marketing.<br />

Membership Requirements: Attendance <strong>to</strong> every meeting is not manda<strong>to</strong>ry, but dedic<strong>at</strong>ed and<br />

continued particip<strong>at</strong>ion is highly encouraged of all members. To maintain membership st<strong>at</strong>us and remain<br />

eligible <strong>to</strong> <strong>at</strong>tend competitions, however, members may not miss more than 2 weeks of a 6-week build<br />

season.<br />

Meetings: Major competition seasons occur during the first half of each semester. For BEST, in the fall,<br />

meetings are generally held 2 <strong>to</strong> 3 times a week. For FIRST, in the spring, meetings range from 5 <strong>to</strong> 7<br />

days a week. During the off-season, meetings are usually held every other week.<br />

Costs: Dues are $15 per semester. Some club activities, such as particip<strong>at</strong>ion in competitions, are<br />

optional. Individual students who choose <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in these extra activities, however, will be<br />

Description: The Science Club promotes the enjoyment of science and encourages particip<strong>at</strong>ion in the<br />

be eligible according <strong>to</strong> UIL rules and teacher recommend<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>to</strong> travel with the club.<br />

SPANISH CLUB (PAN AMERICAN STUDENT FORUM)<br />

Description: The Spanish Club provides an opportunity <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in extracurricular school activities<br />

th<strong>at</strong> lend themselves <strong>to</strong> incorpor<strong>at</strong>ing Hispanic traditions and culture <strong>to</strong> those events happening on campus.<br />

Dues include membership <strong>to</strong> our local chapter and <strong>to</strong> (PASF) the Pan American Student Forum, a st<strong>at</strong>e<br />

wide Spanish Organiz<strong>at</strong>ion. The club has various community projects, fun activities, provides scholarships<br />

<strong>to</strong> members and particip<strong>at</strong>es in all school wide activities. Some of these activities are: salsa dancing,<br />

homecoming parade, cooking contest, ―cascarones workshop‖ food drive, fundraisers, b<strong>at</strong>tle of the<br />

Description: The Speech and Deb<strong>at</strong>e Club prepares students for <strong>to</strong>urnament competition.<br />

Deb<strong>at</strong>e Club. Members of this club compete in Texas Forensic Associ<strong>at</strong>ion, UIL, and many<br />

THE TRIBE<br />

Description: The Tribe is an organiz<strong>at</strong>ion designed <strong>to</strong> increase school spirit, involvement,<br />

cheering and generally raising school spirit through crowd involvement, cheering and generally<br />

raising crowd enthusiasm <strong>at</strong> all pep rallies, games, Spirit Circles, and any other special event.<br />

Clad in special ―Tribe‖ shirts, the Tribe holds the run-through signs <strong>at</strong> pep rallies and football<br />

games, particip<strong>at</strong>es in stunts and generally raises school spirit.<br />

Membership: The Tribe is open <strong>to</strong> males in grades 11and 12. The <strong>Westwood</strong> Varsity<br />

Selection for The Tribe takes place in June of every year. Interested applicants must pick up a<br />

TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY<br />

Purpose: The purpose of this organiz<strong>at</strong>ion is <strong>to</strong> inspire music particip<strong>at</strong>ion, cre<strong>at</strong>e enthusiasm<br />

for scholarship, stimul<strong>at</strong>e a desire <strong>to</strong> render service, and promote leadership in the music students<br />

of secondary schools.<br />

Name: The name of this organiz<strong>at</strong>ion is Tri-M Music Honor Society (Tri-M). The three M<br />

initials stand for Modern Music Masters.<br />

Membership Criteria: Candid<strong>at</strong>es are selected from school music students th<strong>at</strong> exhibit<br />

exceptional scholarship, leadership, service, and character.<br />

Applic<strong>at</strong>ion and Selection: Applic<strong>at</strong>ions will be turned in <strong>to</strong> the sponsor in March. Students<br />

may apply beginning the March of their 10th grade. Selection will be determined by a committee<br />

of teachers representing all music groups (Band, Choir, Orchestra, Piano). Induction for new<br />

members will be in April each year.<br />

Meetings: Tri-M will meet the 2nd Thursday of each month <strong>at</strong> 4:20. Students may miss no<br />

more th<strong>at</strong> 1 meeting per semester.<br />

Volunteer Opportunities: Students will have <strong>at</strong> least 2 volunteer performance opportunites<br />

arranged by Tri-M officers and/or sponsor each year <strong>to</strong> meet the required 1 per semester.<br />

UIL MATH TEAM<br />

Description: U.I.L. M<strong>at</strong>h includes three different events: M<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics, Calcula<strong>to</strong>r Applic<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

and Number Sense. M<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics covers all M<strong>at</strong>h disciplines from Algebra I through Calculus.<br />

Calcula<strong>to</strong>r Applic<strong>at</strong>ions tests ability with a calcula<strong>to</strong>r and is designed for students interested in<br />

engineering or other technical fields. Number Sense involves mental m<strong>at</strong>h and is useful in any<br />

applied m<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics situ<strong>at</strong>ion. The <strong>to</strong>p students in each event represent <strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>at</strong> the District<br />

U.I.L. meet in March.<br />

when deciding who represents <strong>Westwood</strong> <strong>at</strong> UIL practice competitions offered <strong>at</strong> various times<br />

during the year.<br />

Costs: Students who go <strong>to</strong> practice meets must supply their own meals and sometimes their own<br />

transport<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Additional Inform<strong>at</strong>ion: Some m<strong>at</strong>h teachers give extra credit for UIL particip<strong>at</strong>ion. In the last<br />

five years, <strong>Westwood</strong> has won first place in district five times in M<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics and four times in<br />

both Calcula<strong>to</strong>r Applic<strong>at</strong>ions and Number Sense. In addition, our students have won many<br />

individual awards.<br />

SKILLSUSA (Drafting, WebDesign, 3d Anim<strong>at</strong>ion, Graphics, Computer,<br />

Leadership, Community Service Club)<br />

Description: Members of the SkillsUSA Club work on drafting, web design, anim<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

advertising design, and computer programming projects <strong>to</strong> name a few and enter competitions<br />

such as those sponsored on the district, st<strong>at</strong>e, and n<strong>at</strong>ional level. They also utilize the critiquing<br />

abilities of the second-year students <strong>to</strong> improve their job interview skills. Scholarships and<br />

software are rewarded through various competitions. At least two major multi day trips are taken<br />

per year.<br />

<strong>Westwood</strong>. W.H.O. is designed <strong>to</strong> help these new students transition in<strong>to</strong> their new school. A<br />

W.H.O. member may be called <strong>to</strong> ―Host‖ a new student. Hosting entails showing the student<br />

around the school, loc<strong>at</strong>ing classes, lockers, and books, along with meeting the student <strong>at</strong> the end<br />

of each class <strong>to</strong> take them <strong>to</strong> their next class. Other W.H.O. activities involve maintaining the<br />

W.H.O. corner of the <strong>Westwood</strong> web page, assisting with fishbowl, 8 th grade parent night, and<br />

new parent discussion groups.<br />

Membership Requirements: W.H.O. members have Thursday meetings twice a month th<strong>at</strong> are<br />

offered before and after school. If the member misses more than two meeting in a row, they will<br />

<strong>at</strong>tending meetings again.<br />

DIAMONDS<br />

Description: Diamonds is a service and support group for the Warrior Baseball team. In<br />

addition <strong>to</strong> assisting with various fund raising activities, the Diamonds serve in a public rel<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

role and act as hostesses <strong>at</strong> home varsity games. Diamonds is open <strong>to</strong> 11 th and 12 th grade<br />

students.<br />

description of why they wish <strong>to</strong> be a Diamond, a schedule of their classes and extra-curricular<br />

FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES<br />

Description: This organiz<strong>at</strong>ion provides <strong>at</strong>hletes with the opportunity for spiritual growth. The<br />

members study the Bible, hear local speakers and particip<strong>at</strong>e in conferences. We also particip<strong>at</strong>e<br />

in community projects such as Special Olympics and Hill Country Christmas Bureau.<br />

LACROSSE<br />

Description: Lacrosse is an exciting, fast-paced, physical game th<strong>at</strong> is the fastest growing sport<br />

in Texas. The <strong>Westwood</strong> Lacrosse Club is one of the premier high school lacrosse organiz<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

in Austin, and a perennial contender in the Central Division of Texas <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Lacrosse<br />

League. The Lacrosse Club consists of both varsity and junior varsity teams. The Lacrosse club<br />

has obtained approval from RRISD for players <strong>to</strong> receive PE credit if they meet particip<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

criteria. Varsity players are eligible <strong>to</strong> earn the <strong>Westwood</strong> varsity "W" for their letter jacket.<br />

Many <strong>Westwood</strong> alumni have gone on <strong>to</strong> play lacrosse competitively <strong>at</strong> the college level.<br />

Who Can Join: Any boy enrolled <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong> with a desire <strong>to</strong> work hard, be a part of a team,<br />

and continue our winning tradition. No prior lacrosse experience is required. In fact, active<br />

participants in other sports will find th<strong>at</strong> many of those skills transfer <strong>to</strong> lacrosse. The lacrosse<br />

team abides by the "no pass, no play" policy. The lacrosse team requires th<strong>at</strong> all players sign and<br />

follow a team Code of Conduct.<br />

Requirements: Practices are held after school and S<strong>at</strong>urday mornings <strong>at</strong> Canyon Vista Middle<br />

<strong>School</strong>. Fall practices begin in mid-<strong>to</strong>-l<strong>at</strong>e September and are held 2-3 times a week. Spring<br />

practices begin in January and are held 4-5 times a week. Lacrosse is a spring sport and the<br />

season consists of 10-15 games. Players are expected <strong>to</strong> provide their own equipment.<br />

Dues: Dues are estim<strong>at</strong>ed <strong>at</strong> $425. Members are also expected <strong>to</strong> particip<strong>at</strong>e in fund-raising<br />

events, including Wal-Mart car washes, BBQ sales, team garage sale, Youth LAX clinic,<br />

program ads, and t-shirt and concession sales.<br />

<strong>Activities</strong>: In addition <strong>to</strong> the regular games and practices, the team also particip<strong>at</strong>es in special<br />

events such as <strong>to</strong>urnaments, the <strong>Westwood</strong> homecoming parade, an annual alumni game <strong>at</strong><br />

Thanksgiving, a holiday party, and end-of-year recognition banquet.<br />

Description: Warriors for Christ is a group of students who meet weekly <strong>to</strong> study the Bible and<br />

W.I.M.P.<br />

Description: <strong>Westwood</strong> Independent Music Club (WIMP) provides students with musical talents<br />

and interests in musical production the opportunity <strong>to</strong> learn and share those skills with<br />

professionals and other students. Any <strong>Westwood</strong> student can join <strong>to</strong> experience the skills and<br />

dedic<strong>at</strong>ion needed <strong>to</strong> produce live shows, record digital sound, and promote events.<br />

Membership Requirements: Enrolled <strong>at</strong> <strong>Westwood</strong><br />

Meeting Day & Time: Officers Meeting is every Wednesday <strong>at</strong> 8:00 am; Club Meetings set and<br />

announced by officers<br />

Preliminary Events/Fund-raisers (for 2003-2004): We plan <strong>to</strong> have an after-school concert in<br />

the beginning of the 2nd six weeks and our annual l<strong>at</strong>e-night, weekend concert in the beginning<br />

of the 5th six weeks. We will also release the second annual WIMP CD complic<strong>at</strong>ion of<br />

<strong>Westwood</strong> bands in l<strong>at</strong>e spring.<br />

YOUNG LIFE<br />

Description: This is a non-denomin<strong>at</strong>ional Christian organiz<strong>at</strong>ion th<strong>at</strong> meets for fellowship and<br />

discussion.<br />
