General Information: The Warrior Marching Band is the largest single organization on campus. It
performs at all varsity football games, at least two contests, and occasional guest appearances. The
marching band is open to any student who has passed a proficiency audition, usually held in the spring.
Rehearsals begin in late July or early August, and then are held before or after school during the football
season. There are four concert bands, which meet in the school day both semesters. Placement in these
bands is also by audition.. Students typically need to have prior instrumental musical experience before
they can audition. Students in the band program must ―double-block‖ band unless there is a serious
curriculum conflict approved by the principal and the head band director.
Band members are required to attend all rehearsals and performances. After football season, each member
will normally attend a ―sectional‖ rehearsal before or after school once per week.
Costs: Uniforms are provided by RRISD, but informal band shirts, marching shoes, tux shirts, etc. must
be purchased by the student. Private lessons are encouraged, and the fees for these are set by the RRISD
Administration. A fee for uniform cleaning of approximately $50 is assessed as well.
Fund-raisers: There are normally two major Fund-raisers during the year. The proceeds go toward each
individual’s trip expenses. (The band takes a major trip every other year.)
Additional Information: The Westwood Area Band Boosters invites all parents to be active in this very
important parent organization.
