About
American Engineer combines an instrumental ensemble,
electronic sound, and live video for 3D glasses into one fused sensory experience.
All audio and video source samples come from a mid-20th-century industrial film.
These ephemeral scraps are woven into a tangible, though ever-shifting, network
of correlations between the three media. Thus the video (triggered live by the
percussionist) becomes an extension of his musical composition, with the same
musical properties of rhythm, force, spatialization, and counterpoint.
Tech notes
Tech setup is relatively simple. The sample pads contain all the audio and go
straight to the speakers. Their MIDI output goes to a computer running a Max patch,
which uses the MIDI to trigger internal audio that generates the video in real time.
The video can be projected single channel or dual channel.
