Do You Know of a
“Mitzvah Waiting to Happen” That May Need
a Little Assistance?
Cook for a Friend
Happy New Year! As you are making your
New Year’s resolutions, why not make a
commitment to cook with the Social Action
Committee? Congregants of all ages are invited
to join us in the mitzvah of preparing food for
the Jewish elderly in Philadelphia. Cooking
takes place in the TBS meat kitchen once a
month at 6:30 pm. We dice, chop, sauté, bake,
package and label. No experience is necessary.
Come for fun and camaraderie while performing
a true mitzvah. Upcoming cooking dates are:
Social Action Contributions
When you are making contributions to TBS
in honor or in memory of someone, or for a
speedy recovery or yahrzeit, remember that there
is a Social Action Fund whose monies help
defray the cost of these projects.
Blankets from the Heart
Attention Knitters: The Virtua Hospital
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is in need of
blankets for the babies. The blankets should be
light weight and measure about 31 inches by 31
inches.
Also Wanted: Someone to sew together
already knitted squares to make blankets to
contribute to the hospital. If interested, please
call Janet Simons at 856-795-6373.
Say Little And Do Much
Mitzvah Day—May 4, 2008
Congregants of all ages participate in social
action projects at TBS as well as other locations
in the community. Look for information about an
organizational meeting if you would like to join
the committee. New ideas are always welcome.
Project JELLY
This project is ongoing throughout the year.
Children’s books are collected and sent to
libraries in Jerusalem for children who want to
read books in English. Edith Kalech, who initiated
this project, receives heartfelt thanks from the
Jerusalem library when they receive the boxes of
books sent each year.
Donations to Ancora Psychiatric Hospital
Clothing, household items, recreational
materials including games, videos, books, arts &
craft supplies and greeting cards are all needed.
Some items are used by the patients, others are
sold in the thrift shop. Please keep the hospital in
mind as you clean your closets for the new year.
We thank Cheryl Rosov for delivering the goods
to the hospital. To donate, please call Cheryl at
856-424-4366.
Thanksgiving Thank Yous
Thank you to all the participants, especially the
triumvirate who prepared the turkey roasts the day
prior to our cooking day: Bob Bookbinder, Steve
Osder and Joel Penn. Stuffing, sweet potatoes and
vegetables were included in this special holiday
feast for the less fortunate.
The TBS Office Staff asks Your Help
Did you know that in an average week, TBS receives over 50 calls from congregants
asking us to look up the phone numbers of other congregants? We know that it’s easier to
just call us, but it can also be very disruptive to the many other things going on in the office
at any particular time.
Did you know that there’s a no-cost alternative? Just call 1-800-FREE-411
(1-800-373-3411) and you’ll be connected to a no-cost directory assistance service.
Please give this a try, and thank you for your cooperation!
