From the Educational Director
“How good it is to see you again.” The song
continues…
For Rona Kornfeld who has been to Israel before:
“Celebrating Shabbat in Tsfat and Jerusalem
and...seeing Israel through Dina and Tamar’s eyes
and experiences truly made it a trip I will never
forget.”
For Lori Miller, who has been to Israel three
times before, this trip was of a different nature: “It
was amazing...Dina and Tamar kept us busy! Busy!
Busy! We visited schools, met with students and
teachers...ate endless amounts of Schwarma and
falafel, (and) laughed, sang, and also cried…”
Jeanne Conn: “I gained so much more
knowledge...My increased understanding of Israel’s
amazing history and people…”
For Lois Urkowitz who was visiting Israel for the
first time: “There is so much I can tell about the
trip...I cannot explain how peaceful it felt to sit on
our balcony in Jerusalem where, if I turned my
head one way, I could see the old city…”
Lee Wanicur, also a first-timer: “My trip was
We had a great pajama party
at TBS in November. Our 2nd
and 3rd graders watched
movies and heard a “good
night story” from Rabbi
Levenson, and ate lots of
popcorn. What fun we had!
In December, Shorashim had
a pool party at the JCC.
Our next event is at Color
Me Mine on January 6, where
we’ll paint, chat and have a
pizza dinner. Invitations are in
the mail!
amazing! The experiences were so wonderful from
the first Shabbat in Tsfat to the Dead Sea, to the
kibbutz, and finally to our last Shabbat in
Jerusalem...I can’t wait to go back again and
experience more of the magic that Israel has to
offer…”
Tamar Barkan-Shamir wrote: “Sitting with Dina
and trying to arrange the itinerary with our goal
being a reunion with Israel at 60—see the history
and development of the state, get to see the sights
from North to South and make our two Shabbatot
special, unique experiences. This is almost a
“mission impossible”...but we did it! Successfully!
This was an opportunity to share and experience
my homeland in a way I never have as a native
Israeli. It is an honor to go into the classrooms and
act as an “ambassador,” sharing photos and
stories. We hope the connections we made with
our partnership school in Arad will “take off”
through various projects we have planned for the
coming school year.
We are back. But are we really?
