Contact: If a student is going to be late, or miss entirely, the instructor should be previously
notified when realistic, or called as soon as possible.
Class breaks: There is a break schedule, with a ten-minute break for every 50 minutes of
instruction. One twenty-minute break will be scheduled for both the morning and
evening sessions. Breaks may vary at the discretion of the instructor.
the police may be notified, and you may be ticketed. Parking in marked spaces for
shared tenants and IntelliTec customers is not allowed.
Attendance Policy:
Students are expected to attend and make productive use of all available training time: five hours for
each day of training scheduled. The hands-on learning environment makes it imperative you are in
class to receive the full benefit of instruction and practice time given. Make up labs are not an
adequate substitute for being in class when the modality is taught. Please make every effort to ensure
your future professional success as a massage therapist by attending every scheduled class.
If you are going to be absent please inform your instructor ahead of time. If an unplanned absence
occurs please call the front desk receptionist at (719)542-3181and leave a message for your instructor.
It is understood that there may be instances where a student may miss class due to personal illness,
illness or death within their immediate family or other unforeseen emergency situations. In those cases
COS-130 Shampooing, Rinsing and Conditioning 7
l 4/26/2012
the student must make arrangements with their instructor for makeup assignments and/or missed
tests.
• Makeup assignments/tests will be scheduled at the Instructor’s/Program Supervisor’s
discretion.
• A student cannot make up any assignment/test/lab practical during hours of their
scheduled class attendance.
• A student that successfully makes up an assignment/test/lab practical will be giving the
appropriate grade minus points deducted per days missed.
• Makeup assignments are given at the instructors’ discretion and lose 10% of the total grade
each day that it is late. The assignments can only be up to four “school” days late. All
tests/exams must be made up by scheduling a time with the Program Supervisor within
“ONE” day of missing the test/exam.
For Example:
o One day – 10% deduction
o Two days – 20% deduction
o Three days – 30% deduction
o Four days – 40% deduction
• NO assignments will be accepted after the LAST day of the course in which the student
missed the assignments.
Cosmetology Program Make up Hours Policy
It is the policy in the IntelliTec College Cosmetology program that all missed classroom hours must be
made up on campus.
It is preferable that students attend the day/night class of the day they missed in order to stay on track
with curriculum for that specific course; instructor lecture, classroom discussion, lab procedures, etc. If the
student cannot attend corresponding day/night class, students must make up class time by completing a
makeup assignment that may entail; book work, case studies, class web activities, and/or periodical
research. All makeup work will be done in the Learning Resource Center/Tec Café.
Class hours are scheduled in 15 minute increments; four 15 minute increments equals one class hour. If
you miss only 15 minutes of class, you are still required to make up that time, as daily accrual of missed
time will equal more make-up hours to complete.
Makup hours may be made up in the Learning Resource Center on these days and during these times:
Monday-Thursday 8:00am – 10:00pm
Friday 8:00am – 1:30pm
Procedure for make-up time in the Learning Resource Center:
Prior to performing makeup time, speak with your instructor and let them know when you are
planning to do your makeup time. Assignments vary based upon the amount of classroom hours you
missed.
Sign in on the appropriate clipboard for the Cosmetology Program at the Tec Café counter.
Makeup hour assignments are located in the white binder at the Tec Café counter. Instructions are
located within the binder.
COS-130 Shampooing, Rinsing and Conditioning 8
l 4/26/2012
Utilize resources in the Library Resource Center to assist you in completing your makeup
assignment: Computer, Library Books, Periodicals, Etc.
After you complete the makeup hours, sign out on the appropriate clipboard for the Cosmetology
Program at the Tec Café counter.
Deliver your makeup assignment to the college front desk and ask the receptionist to put the
assignment in your instructors’ mailbox. If the receptionist has left for the day, please put your
assignment in the folder labeled Cosmetology Assignments, located in the Tec Café.
All make-up hours need to be completed “in full” by the following Friday of the week you missed
class.
o Example: Miss 3 hours of class on a Tuesday. You have until the following Friday (8 days)
to makeup your hours
o Miss 5 hours of class on a Thursday. You have until the following Friday (4 days) to makeup
your hours
Student have the option to spread out their makeup hours and make them up on various days, not all
on the same day, just making sure that you have them completely made up by that following Friday.
All makeup hours must be completed by the end of each course.
Example: If you miss class time during week 6 of your course, you will only have until Friday of that week
to makeup your time.
Please note that if you miss practical labs, instructor lecture, group activities, etc. you are not receiving
credit for those assignments by making up hours during makeup time. Makeup time is strictly to make up
classroom “seat” time (clock hours). You will still receive the appropriate grade for what you have missed
in class such as 10% off for late homework, 0 points for lab time, etc.
Please feel free to contact your program supervisor, Melissa Bruce, if you have any questions regarding
this policy.
Makeup days and hours are also posted in the break area of the Cosmetology building.
If an absence occurs and the student has missed the number of hours listed below,
the following actions shall be taken immediately:
1 st Missed Class (6 hours)
Instructor must make verbal contact with the student and annotate it in the Student
Info data file
2 nd Missed Class (12 hours)
The Instructor and Program Supervisor will attempt to contact the student.
3 rd Missed Class (18 hours)
The Dean of Students and or Retention Specialist will attempt to contact student. A
Student Support Plan will be drawn up on the student, requiring the student
signature.
AT 25% absences (23 hours)
COS-130 Shampooing, Rinsing and Conditioning 9
l 4/26/2012
The student will be dropped if there has been no communication between the
student with the Program Supervisor or the Dean of Students. If Student is retained,
said student will be placed on Attendance Probation.
At 33% Absences (30 hours)
All students will be dropped unless their continued enrollment status is approved by
the Director of the school.
• The Instructor is to log each attempted phone call and/or e-mail to the student in
the Student Info data base.
• Leaving class early without the express consent of the instructor will result in zero
attendance points.
Website information
• Students may access their school related information on the college website at
