<strong>Citations</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>APA</strong> <strong>Style</strong><br />
The follow<strong>in</strong>g style of citation is based on the fifth edition of Publication Manual of<br />
the American Psychological Association (<strong>APA</strong>). It is recommended that this<br />
document be purchased and used as a reference <strong>in</strong> the classroom or laboratory.<br />
Elements of reference for a periodical:<br />
1. Journal article, one author:<br />
Grimsley, T. R. (2003). In search of the typical eyewitness. Science Fiction<br />
Writ<strong>in</strong>g, 50, 36-39.<br />
The article title is <strong>in</strong> lower case except for first word, journal is italicized; <strong>in</strong>clude the<br />
volume number of the journal and page numbers of the article.<br />
NOTE: If more than one author, separate names with commas. Use last name and<br />
<strong>in</strong>itials only. For the AND use the ampersand “&.”<br />
2. Magaz<strong>in</strong>e article<br />
Scribner, D. (2003, January 5). See<strong>in</strong>g education work. <strong>School</strong>s, 175, 34-38.<br />
NOTE: Provide the date shown on the publication. Provide the month for monthlies<br />
or month and day for weeklies.<br />
3. Daily newspaper article, no author<br />

NOTE: Use p. or pp. before the page number.<br />
