Figure 2 - RESCUE concept overview
The figure above shows the total emergency call and response chain, which will be
included in RESCUE and the GST test sites with RESCUE functionalities. Focus will be
on the in-vehicle originated emergency calls where this subproject will ensure that the invehicle
data transmitted to the different levels of Public Service Access Points reach the
rescue vehicles in order to provide a faster and more effective emergency response. The
in-vehicle data will be defined taking into account contributions from the eSafety
working group on e-call, E-MERGE and AIDER projects. The transfer of data will be
initiated by the embedded expert system. The sub-project will study the ad equation of
the ECALL structure to support an Emergency situation occurring in an automotive
context and will propose necessary adaptations [8].
Another equally important focus of the RESCUE sub-project concentrates on the
efficiency of the rescue operations where the sub-project will aim to optimise the security
and speed for the emergency vehicles to reach the scene of the incident this includes a
hybrid navigation solution, vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to control centre
communications. Furthermore, it will aim at improving the management and the data
exchange among control units and rescue units and between rescue units and care taking
facilities e.g. hospitals.
Starting from the results carried out by the WP2, in the following, this system overview is
given in detail, defining the main architecture elements for GST RESCUE SP in terms of
entities, reference points and collaborations.
