ROAD CONSTRUCTION THROUGH SEPP 14 WETLANDS 06.0207.D
The proposed works will disturb varying widths of the road reserve as described below:
Between chainages 0 and 330 the disturbance area includes the existing road and
verges. This area is already highly disturbed.
Between chainages 330 and 600 a disturbance area of up to 25m including 10m of
existing road. New batters will be cut back at this point to provide passage for the
proposed new road.
Between chainages 600 and 915 works fall within the gazetted SEPP14 wetland
(wetland 177). The total disturbance within the designated wetland area would be
approximately 6225m2, including the existing road (approximately 3780m2, assuming
an approximate width of 12m to include the verges.)
Additional disturbance will also involve relocation of a power pole, water main, telstra
cable, and the construction of a new fence along the boundary lines, new pits, concrete
headwalls and extension of culverts.
Notwithstanding the above, the specific measures recommended in the EIS will be
incorporated into any conditions of consent to minimise potential environmental impact. See
Attachment A. This also includes the preparation of a number of specific management plans
to be adhered to during works:
Erosion and Sediment Control Plan
Acid Sulphate Soils Management Plan
Traffic Management Plan
Acoustic Assessment
This will be addressed through conditions of consent.
Social/Economic
The proposal will improve the safety of South Head Road to the community.
Consultation
In accordance with the Act and Regulation, the application was placed on public exhibition
from the 5 April 2006 until 21 May 2006. During that time no submissions were received.
Financial
Funding will be made available for the proposed works.
