The convenient and high-quality combifit packages benefit from changing consumer habits and the ecological benefits of the beverage carton. To meet growing demand for beverage cartons, SIG Combibloc invests to expand production capacities at the Linnich and Wittenberg plants in Germany. SIG focuses on the rapidly expanding beverages market, thereby laying the foundation stone for long-term growth. The Group repositions itself as a “global supplier of equipment, systems and materials for the beverages industry, leading in selected markets.” A solution outside of the Group is being sought for SIG Pack which is active in the dry-goods sector. In the first half-year, SIG realized an overall order intake of eur 940 million (previous year eur 942 million) and net sales of eur 927 million (previous year eur 905 million). The impact on operating profit caused by streamlining the Group portfolio and losses from realized and planned divestments is around eur 62 million. SIG Simonazzi hands over the keys for two major completed projects to the customers. The aseptic filling line for uht milk in pet bottles at Tingshin Tianjin in China starts production. Early in December, a new beverage line for beer starts production at Grolsch in the Netherlands. SIG Simonazzi in Parma accepts the first order to build a filling machine for SIG Combibloc. SIG receives an award for sustainable business activities and, for the first time, is registered in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index. SIG Combibloc receives the German Packaging Prize 2003, awarded by the German Institute of Packaging, for its combishape machine concept. The American Institute of Packaging Professionals confers its prestigious AmeriStar award on SIG allCap and SIG Combibloc for the combiTwist screw cap and the combifit carton respectively.
