Siemens S7-300 range of PLCs fitted with appropriate input and output cards control a total of 71 motor
control panels. The supervisory software is a Siemens WINCC SCADA Package. This is used to monitor
these panels and on local panel mounted Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and the Supervisory PC. The
BMS system also interfaces with the fire system via a dedicated Siemens PLC through a Modbus interface.
Each panel is fed from the essential electrical supply that is backed up by the hospital generators. Within
each panel is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that provides continuous data logging and system
monitoring during a power failure and while the panel awaits power to be restored via the generators.
Each main panel has a local panel-mounted UPS-backed Human Machine Interface (HMI). Their purpose
is to monitor measured values, start/stop of equipment, monitor and adjust set points and time settings.
All motors in the cubicles are controlled by Siemens Simocode 3UF50
DP Intelligent Overload devices. These devices are configurable and
reside on the respective panel Profibus DP network. They have four
digital inputs and four digital outputs that can provide monitoring data
on the status of the motor that it controls. All variable speed drives
are Seimens Micromaster 440 type and are mounted externally from
the panels with a fitted Profibus DP interface card. These cards
are supplied with a separate UPS backed 24V DC supply from the
control cubicle where they receive their motor power. This ensures
that the drive can be monitored at all times including power failure.
