The threats of terrorist attacks on chemical plants and
oil refineries and the growing awareness of general
security and processing safety issues mean that plant
must be invested with the relevant precautions. These
plants call for video surveillance, perimeter and intrusion
and voice alarm solutions that will secure risk within
the plant or facility.
In such specialised circumstances, the need for the right equipment is a prerequisite. Chemical
or food processing plants often handle potentially explosive dusts or powders that mean most
security system equipment cannot be used due to the risk of causing an explosion. Even when
suitable equipment is used, users are often faced with added costs or certification issues when
they need additional functionality like integral receivers, sun shields or wipers, for example.
ESI’s total security solution
ESI provides the solution to these issues and problems by offering total
security integration. Integrated and centralized monitoring security
software suites are used to remotely monitor network infrastructure
that combine the following security systems: access control; video
surveillance; intrusion access control; perimeter intrusion detection;
badge tracking and multi-tag identification; mustering emergencies and
the recording of all security events in the refinery and/or petrochemical
plant. The SCADA head end may also integrate to other safety systems
such as real time Fire & Gas detection systems; fire extinguishing
and suppression systems and Voice Alarm systems. Full control room
integration, by high level software integration, includes extending
the security and safety head end to include other process and plant
signals such as emergency and back up power real time monitoring and
alarming; process control; flare and process monitoring, hazardous
area coverage for worker safety, mustering in emergencies and the
recording of all events in the refinery and petrochemical plant.
