Seminars on E 3 STs in <strong>th</strong>e Philippines<br />

The Industrial <strong>Technology</strong> Development <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>th</strong>e Philippines conducted two seminars on increasing <strong>th</strong>e knowledge <strong>of</strong><br />

ceramic manuf<strong>ac</strong>turers and metalcasters on <strong>th</strong>e techno-economic viability <strong>of</strong> energy efficient and environmentally sound technologies<br />

(E 3 ST). The seminars gave <strong>th</strong>em an insight on how <strong>th</strong>ese technologies could improve <strong>th</strong>e productivity <strong>of</strong> <strong>th</strong>e ceramics<br />

and metal casting industries. The first seminar, E 3 STs for <strong>th</strong>e Ceramics Industry, was held on March 2, 2001 at Makati City.<br />

The seminar was attended by 25 participants from <strong>th</strong>e ceramics industry, project partners and equipment suppliers. The topics<br />

discussed were energy use and pollution load, energy efficient kilns, insulation materials and waste heat recovery. On<br />

March 3, 2001, a seminar on E 3 STs for <strong>th</strong>e Metalcasting Industry was held in co-operation wi<strong>th</strong> <strong>th</strong>e Philippine Metalcasting<br />

Association at Quezon City. It was attended by 30 participants. The topics discussed were energy efficient melting furn<strong>ac</strong>es,<br />

ARRPEEC 2 nd Annual Review Workshop<br />

SMI Project Workshops and Seminars<br />

The 2 nd Annual Review Workshop <strong>of</strong> <strong>th</strong>e <strong>Asian</strong> Regional Research Programme in Energy, Environment and Climate (ARRPEEC)<br />

funded by <strong>th</strong>e Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (Sida) was held 19-21 February 2001 at <strong>th</strong>e <strong>Asian</strong><br />

<strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Technology</strong>, Bangkok, Thailand. Research <strong>ac</strong>tivities conducted during 2000 in <strong>th</strong>e four <strong>th</strong>emes <strong>of</strong> ARRPEEC (small<br />

and medium scale industries, power sector, urban transport systems and biomass) and <strong>th</strong>e outcomes so far <strong>ac</strong>hieved were<br />

presented. Sida <strong>of</strong>ficials, AIT project leaders, representatives <strong>of</strong> <strong>th</strong>e national research institutions, and some country representatives<br />

<strong>of</strong> climate change reviewed <strong>th</strong>e proposed project <strong>ac</strong>tivities and research <strong>ac</strong>tivities for <strong>th</strong>e year 2001.<br />
