what the geological deposits might possibly look like, at what depth
they lie and tons of other data which has to make an oil strike in
Nickerie possible. Should we strike oil, we will conduct a production
test to map the characteristics,’ says Nelson.
Next to the three wells, seven more are planned. Some of these wells
will be drilled with the swamp rig in the Nanizwamp and in the swamp
areas to the north. Nelson explains that four more wells are planned
for this year in Paradise, Wageningen and the Clarapolder. Nelson:
‘When we’re done we’ll have completed much of our geological
outlines.’ The operational area covers some 2,500 km². Wells will be
drilled at depths ranging from 700 to 1,500 meters. The drilling sites
have been determined on a combination of seismic and aeromagnetic
data which were compiled in geological outlines.
