FORE}'ORD I, Rosemary Anne Blair have always wanted to corpile a book with knowledgee facts and necrologies of the Blair and Cerny fenilies and for many years I maintained a scrap book of my oun and this was nbst beneficial to me for the assemblage of this book. Also., checking with old ledgers, many articles from neurspapers, dates in the cerneteries and many trips to the state archives have helped inmensely and without this assistance my own efforts r.rould have been fruitless. The renerred acquaintence of the Cerny family in Anna and Cobdin, Illinois that I have visited for the past several years has been most rewarding. I try to visit with then every year or so and it is such a pleasure to be with thgn. I had not seen some of these hospi tabl ee corpetentl and friendly cousins of nry nother for so many years. I have no knowledge of the ancestry or lineal descent of the Cerny family other than they inmigrated from Germany. I do not remgnber our grandfather, Anthony Cerny or our grandrother, lhry Cerny. The Blair fsnily inmigrated from Ireland to Anerica. I do not renernber our grandmother, Frances Blair but I well rernember our grandfather, Patrick Blair who w*ld come out to the farm in the sunmer and he rrould help our father with different kinds of carperrter work like reinforcing the corn crib where ear corn was stored. I can only conceive the hardships and sacrifices our forefathers endured when they came to America, settled and made a home and livelihood for thenrselves r'n a strange land especial ly when many of them were suffering frorn famine and yel low fever. The olden days mrst have been a rpnderful age and era to live in even with its austeritr'es and the many hardships. The people were somqhat uneducated but cornpn sense was used plus all the inhibitions learned frqn their childhood and the understandings of what they had already endured. It has been a great fulfillment and rnost rewarding on my part to have written this book. Rerniniscing is present in alI of us even though many mernbers of our fanily have departed this earth. we all can be accused of being great procrastinators at one time or another in our lives and therefore we should consider our lives and all of our undertakings have been rnost auspicious only with the help of God.
A great sense of conplacency was derived by me to have been able to make this book as authentic, interesting and uniquely informative as possible. Hany of my friends and relatives were contacted for the preparation of this book and I am mos"t grateful for their assistance and to all of thgn who witlingly cooperated so effectively and so prompt I y. The necessary information received by me on the Blair fgnily and'their descendants and also the Cerny fsnily would have been impossible for me to accotplish without the help of the people listed below.
