|tother and myself spent a lot of time praying at the chapel
in St. lhryrs Hospital. After a week of going through the
clinic, the consultation with the doctors was held on a
Saturday rnrning. They informed mother that her condition
was inoperable since the cancer had already spread into the
lymph gland and asked her to submit to a series of radium
treatments, one every day for fifteen days. They told her
that the treatments could help her if she was strong enough
to endure them but at the same time they told her that they
could make her very ill after they once took effect.
We uould have breakfast and our evening meal at the Kahler
l'lotel if ttry mother felt like eating anything *'irich was not
very often as the treatments made her so sick and weak. l{e
would go back to our rooot where we were staying and Hrs Hubbard
would bring mother a cup of hot te-a and that rrould be all she
could keep in her stomach. I had lost my appetite and was never
very hungry. l'lotherrs treatment was given every morning at 8 AH
at the clinic and after the treatment she became conpletely
exhausted and we would go back to our room and she r,rould have to
go to bed and rest and try to regain some of her much needed
strength.
