He had never had a furlough in all of the months that he
was in the service and I met him at the train station in
Springfield and I hardly recognized him since he had lost
so much weight and looked so pale and weak. He devetoped
malaria while he was in New Guinea and he had attacks of
chills, fever and sweating that were beyond belief. Our
mother irmediately took him to the doctor and he gave him
medicine to purify his blood and after many months he got
better and regained his strength.
June 18, 1949 he married ltlary Catherine llurray in the
Bl essed Sacrament church i n Spri ngfi el d, I I I i noi s. They
lived in fliantic as well as Illiopolis.
