government, engaging in agricultural pui'suits for many years<br />

thereafter. He later moved to Florida, where Ms wife passed away<br />

in 19U5. Following this he returned to <strong>Lee</strong> county and here died in<br />

1908. In his family were three childi'en: Mary E., the wife <strong>of</strong><br />

Henry Wright, <strong>of</strong> Amboy, <strong>Illinois</strong> ; Elizabeth W., who married E.<br />

J. Gray, <strong>of</strong> this coimty; and Edwin A., <strong>of</strong> this review.<br />

The last named was reared upon the farm and was familiar at<br />

an early age with the best methods <strong>of</strong> tilling the soil and caring<br />

for the grain and stock. When he was twenty-one he rented the<br />

homestead and after operating it for several years bought the<br />

adjoining property. He now owns one hundred and twenty acres<br />

on section 31, Bradford township, and section 36, China township.<br />

By his intelligent management and progressive methods he has<br />

surrounded himself with a comfortable degree <strong>of</strong> prosperity. In<br />

addition to this he owns a one hundred and sixty acre farm in<br />

Potter county, South Dakota.<br />

In 1893 Mr. Pomeroy was united in marriage to Miss Adaline<br />

D. Thornton. Mrs. Pomeroy engaged in teaching in <strong>Lee</strong> county for<br />

several years previous to her marriage. She and her husband have<br />

six children: Philip E., who was born July 30, 1894; Richard T.,<br />

whose birth occurred May 11, 3896; Helen L., born September 24,<br />

1897; Edith E., December 27, 1901; Vernon S., December 6, 1903;<br />

and I'loyd S., July 8, 1905.<br />

Mr. Pomeroy is well known in fraternal circles, being a member<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Lee</strong> Center Lodge, No. 146, A. P. & A. M., and Haskel Lodge,<br />

No. 1004, 1. O. 0. F., <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lee</strong> Center. He is also affiliated with <strong>Lee</strong><br />

Center Camp, No. 1036, M. W. A., and he and his wife belong to the<br />

Rebekahs and the Order <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Star. Mr. Pomeroy gives<br />

his political allegiance to the republican party and has held the<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> road supervisor. His attention is, however, largely confined<br />

to his farming interests and his success in their management<br />

places him among the representative and substantial men <strong>of</strong> the<br />

community.<br />
