be a credit to a city <strong>of</strong> mucli larger size. Jdiis store is well<br />

appointed in every particular and he has a large line <strong>of</strong> goods <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> both foreign and domestic manufacture. His business affairs<br />

are conducted along the strictest lines <strong>of</strong> commercial integrity and,<br />

moreover, his life is exemplary in other respects.<br />

In 1907 Mr. Trein was united in marriage to Miss Janet Griffith,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Ashton, <strong>Illinois</strong>, and they have a pleasant home in Dixon<br />

and delight to extend to their many friends its hospitality. They<br />

hold membership in the English Liitherau church and in politics<br />

Mr. Trein is a progressive republican. He is always courteous,<br />

kindly and affable and those who laiow him personally have for<br />

him a warm regard. As has been truly remarked, after all that<br />

may be done for a man in the way <strong>of</strong> giving him early opportunities<br />

for obtaining the requii emeuts which are sought in school and<br />

in books, he must essentially formulate, determine and give shape<br />

to his own character and this is what Mr. Trein has done. He has<br />

persevered in the pursuit <strong>of</strong> a persistent purpose and has gained a<br />

most satisfactory reward.<br />

PETER A. KELLEY, Jr.<br />

Peter A. Kelley, Jr., a prominent and successful farmer and<br />

stock-raiser <strong>of</strong> Bradford township, was born in this part <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lee</strong><br />

county, December 28, 1872. He is a son <strong>of</strong> Peter and Katherine<br />

Kelley, the latter <strong>of</strong> whom was 1iorn in Germany and came to<br />

America at an early date. The father was a native <strong>of</strong> Ireland.<br />

The parents are now residents <strong>of</strong> Franklin Grove. To their union<br />

were born ten children, seven <strong>of</strong> whom are still living.<br />

Peter A. Kelley, Jr., was reared upon his father's farm in<br />

Bradford township and eaily became familiar with the best and<br />

most practical agricultural methods. For the past eight years he<br />

has been operating the old homestead and he has met with excellent<br />

success in the conduct <strong>of</strong> his affairs, having extensive and<br />

important general farming and stock-raising interests. The farm<br />

comprises one Imndred and sixty acres <strong>of</strong> valuable and productive<br />

land and is kept in excellent condition. Mr. Kelley being a prac-<br />

tical and progressive agriculturist.<br />

Mr. Kelley married TNIiss Mollie Viv,. who was horn in Mary-<br />

land, a daughter <strong>of</strong> Archie and Jennie Utz, now residents <strong>of</strong>
