2014 BUDGET
Planning is underway for the City’s
2014 Budget and we will begin actual
development of it in early summer. The proposed
budget will be distributed to Council on October 2,
at which time copies will be available in the Finance
Department and at the Public Library for review by the public.
It will also be available electronically on the Finance page of
the City of Appleton website. There will be a public hearing
on November 6, prior to budget adoption on November 13,
where the public is invited to offer comments.
Please take the opportunity to review the proposed budget
when it becomes available and to contact your alderperson,
City staff, or the Mayor with any questions or comments.
PROPERTY TAX PAYMENTS
Installment due dates for 2nd , 3rd and 4th payments are
April 1, May 31 and July 31. Please visit the City’s website at
www.appleton.org/departments/finance for ways to make
your payments. For tax payment questions, please call the
Finance Department at 920-832-6442.
ASSESSED VALUES
The City Assessor reviews all assessed values at least once
every four years to keep them at 100% of market value. Our
goal is to provide for a fair and equitable distribution of the
property tax levy. For 2013, commercial property is being
reviewed. If your assessment is changed, a notice will be sent
to you on or about May 10. The 2013 assessments will be
available after that date on my.appleton.org. The Assessor’s
Open Book period is tentatively scheduled for the week of May
13-17 and May 20-21 and the Board of Review is tentatively
scheduled for June 4.

HOMEOWNER REHABILITATION
LOAN PROGRAM
The City of Appleton Community and Economic Development
Department operates a deferred repayment loan program for low- to
moderate-income homeowners (e.g., family of four with income less
than $57,750/year) that need improvements done to their homes.
Applications from eligible households will be accepted February
18, 2013 through April 26, 2013 for work to be done in 2013.
Applications will be available during this application period only.
Applications can be found on the website, on the first floor of City
Hall across from the Cashiers, or on the fifth floor of City Hall at the
Customer Service area. Additional program and qualifying
information is available on the website: www.appleton.org (go to
the Department of Community and Economic Development and
then click on the link to the “Housing Rehab Loan”). For more

OUTDOOR FIREPLACE
PERMITS
The Appleton Fire Department requires
daily or seasonal outdoor fireplace permits
prior to having any outdoor fire. (This
excludes fires fueled by natural gas,
propane and charcoal.) A daily, single-use permit is $15 and
the seasonal permit (new or renewal), valid for the calendar
year from January 1 through December 31, is $30.
Residents are encouraged to obtain their permits online at
www.appleton.org/fire or at any of the six Appleton Fire
stations. Specific burning times and requirements can also
be found on our website.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
HAPPENINGS
The Appleton Police Department is
constantly looking for ways to let the
citizens of Appleton know what is
going on in their community. We
recognize that our citizens are the
Police Department’s best resource
when it comes to obtaining
knowledge about criminal or
suspicious activity occurring in their community.
To assist citizens and officers alike, the Appleton Police
Department has created a Facebook page (www.facebook.
com/appleton.policedepartment) along with a Twitter
account (@AppletonPD_WI). In addition to putting out
information regarding ordinance and statute changes,
community events, traffic issues and safety tips, we also
hope to give citizens a view of the day-to-day happenings of
the Appleton Police Department. On occasion, we will also
post videos or photographs of individuals we need
assistance in identifying.
Recently, we also started using the crime tip software
program, Tipsoft. This site allows citizens to view interactive
crime maps of the city, text information to the site
regarding crime or suspicious activity, and also receive alerts
on electronic devices from the Appleton Police Department.
