This is the fi rst in a series of exhibitions
over the next few years presented by
Flinders University Art Museum that
will interrogate the notion of identity.
These exhibitions will provide a space
for refl ection, debate, dispute, agree
on what constitutes ‘identity’ and to
what uses it is applied at this time
of our cultural development. The
exhibitions will feature historical
and contemporary material, diverse
media including paintings, books,
photographs, installations and
multi-media. The series will include
exhibitions with accompanying events
and performances.
The collections, the exhibitions, the
events, the acquisitions, the personnel,
the galleries and the changing role of
the Art Museum within the university
mainstream culture are the stuff of the
Museum’s identity; what is this, what
has it been and what can it be?
The changing nature of the acquisitions
charts the changes in the role of the
Museum in the University and also
changes in contemporary art practice
and theory.
