SCM 295 ADMINISTRATION OF TRANSPORTATION<br />

(4 CREDITS)<br />

The objective of the course is to integrate knowledge from<br />

all previous courses in the Associate of Science Degree in<br />

Supply Chain Management program into a real-world business<br />

deliverable. The course will serve to further broaden the<br />

student’s knowledge of Transportation Logistics as well as<br />

Transportation Management, Rate Negotiation, and essential<br />

Contract elements. The overall goal of the course is for the<br />

student to develop and articulate a real-world transportation<br />

management plan that will be useful to a private company or<br />

to a government entity. Prerequisites: Last Quarter Only with<br />

advisor approval<br />

SCM 301 INTRODUCTION TO LOGISTICS AND<br />

SYSTEMS SUPPORT (4 CREDITS)<br />

The first part of this course prepares students to understand the<br />

elements of Logistics and to assist them in the entrepreneurial<br />

activity of understanding and designing a Logistics Operation<br />

that meets both company and customer objectives. Several<br />

systems are introduced to assist students in supporting decisions<br />

in Warehousing, Transportation, and Inventory Control, all<br />

important elements of the Logistics concept. Prerequisite: MGT<br />

SCM 302 OVERVIEW OF PROCUREMENT<br />

PRACTICES (4 CREDITS)<br />

The objective of the course is to introduce the student to ethics,<br />

best practices, and legal regulations as they apply in today’s<br />

purchasing/procurement environment. The course is intended<br />

to give the student a manager’s perspective of the procurement<br />

process in order to make more effective decisions and to help<br />

avoid making costly mistakes. The course is not intended<br />

to make the student a qualified contracting or purchasing<br />

agent, but rather to give an overall understanding so that<br />

the future manager can have a more rounded knowledge,<br />

including how purchasing and/or procurement fits into a welldevised<br />

Enterprise Resource Planning model for a company.<br />

SCM 401 MANAGING WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS<br />

(4 CREDITS)<br />

This course exposes students to all aspects of distribution<br />

center receiving, storage selection, and shipping. In addition,<br />

there are exercises in distribution center locating, sizing, and<br />

construction. Prerequisite: SCM 301<br />

SCM 402 SUPPLY CHAIN INVENTORY PLANNING<br />

(4 CREDITS)<br />

This course addresses the significance of material requirements,<br />

planning and distribution requirements, planning process<br />

in inventory. Planning is addressed and the consequences of<br />

decisions in each of these environments is explained. Exercises<br />

in various aspects of planning and replenishment are reviewed<br />

and discussed. Prerequisite: SCM 301<br />

SCM 403 LOGISTICS AND DISTRIBUTION<br />

MANAGEMENT EXTERNSHIP (4 CREDITS)<br />

This course is a practical experience of these concepts in<br />

actual operations of a logistics and distribution company. The<br />

client company evaluates and grades the performance of each<br />

candidate and reports it to <strong>Sullivan</strong> <strong>University</strong>. This is included<br />

in the final grade. Prerequisites: SCM 302, SCM 401, SCM<br />

EVENT MANAGEMENT AND TOURISM<br />

NTA 154 TRAVEL REFERENCE SKILLS<br />

(4 CREDITS)<br />

This course gives the student an in-depth look at principles<br />

of the travel industry other than airlines. Emphasis is on<br />

cruises, lodging, rail (domestic and foreign), and car rentals,<br />

as the student develops skills in industry research/resources.<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />

NTA 215 TOURISM/EVENT PLANNING<br />

PRACTICUM (2 CREDITS)<br />

This course provides the student with the knowledge and handson<br />

experience of actual industry operation to include event<br />

planning, hospitality, or tourism procedures. Prerequisite: None<br />

NTA 244 TOURISM (4 CREDITS)<br />

This course gives the student a comprehensive look at the<br />

dynamics of worldwide tourism. It is designed to acquaint the<br />

student with the relationship of tourism to the many businesses<br />

that offer services either directly or indirectly to the tourist.<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />

TGE 214 GEOGRAPHY OF THE SOUTHERN<br />

HEMISPHERE (4 CREDITS)<br />

This course involves a study of the geography of Mexico,<br />

Central America, South America, Africa, Australia, and New<br />

Zealand, including major gateway cities, resorts, and tourist<br />

attractions. Differences of cultures and lifestyles are discussed<br />

as well as points of interest to the world traveler. Prerequisite:<br />

None<br />

TGE 224 EURASIAN GEOGRAPHY (4 CREDITS)<br />

This course covers a study of the geography of Europe, Asia,<br />

Malaysia, and Indonesia, including major gateway cities, resorts,<br />

TRV 205 MEETING AND EVENT PLANNING<br />

This course gives the student an in-depth look at the logistics<br />

of meeting planning. It acquaints the student with the myriad<br />

tasks required to plan a successful meeting. It emphasizes the<br />

various types of groups who require the services of a meeting<br />

planner. Prerequisite: None<br />

TRV 244 TRAVEL MANAGEMENT (4 CREDITS)<br />

This course covers many hospitality industry specific sales and<br />

marketing strategies and tools that can be used to effectively<br />

plan and implement them. Prerequisite: None<br />

TRV 250 BEST PRACTICES IN EVENT MANAGEMENT<br />

(4 CREDITS)<br />

This course covers a variety of case studies from event<br />

management organizations which expand and develop the<br />

knowledge of the student in this area. Prerequisite: TRV 205<br />

TRV 252 EVENT COORDINATION AND MARKETING<br />

(4 CREDITS)<br />

The students are involved in planning several detailed functions<br />

and plan a marketing strategy for each of these event situations.<br />

Prerequisite: None<br />
