Welcome to Fondation Beyeler
The Fondation Beyeler is known as one of the finest museums of modern art worldwide.
Founded by Swiss art collectors Ernst and Hildy Beyeler in 1997, it quickly gained
international recognition for its unique collection of celebrated artists of the 19th, 20th
and 21st century.
A harmonious fusion of
nature, art and architecture
Built by award-winning star
architect Renzo Piano, the
museum lies within the
beautiful grounds of the
Berower estate near Basel.
The building reflects the mission
of the Beyelers to share their
enthusiasm for beautiful art and
nature with the public.
The galleries are generously sized yet intimate, with a unique blend of artificial and natural light
and magnificent views on the surrounding pastureland at the foothills of the Black Forest.
Switzerland’s most visited art museum
Amongst others, the collection comprises artworks
from Paul Cézanne, Marc Chagall, Alberto
Giacometti, Vincent van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky,
Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Piet
Mondrian, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Jackson
Pollock, Auguste Rodin, Mark Rothko and Andy
Warhol.
In addition to the permanent collection, the
museum hosts a variety of major exhibitions each
year.
In 2011, the museum recorded nearly half a million
visitors and is now the most frequently visited art
museum in Switzerland.
