QHT international E.R.C.H.A. SPRING STAKES (by Antonella Gliori – photos kind courtesy Andrea Bonaga) Mauro Taccia with Briga Lynx ***** The new special event, organized by the European Reined Cow Horse Association, took place in the new facility of Palasturla in Manerbio, in a week-end rich of action and performance horses. The Spring Stake was divided in two classes, Open and Non Pro, and was reserved to four and five years old horses, ridden in a snafflebit. 11 were the entries of the Open class, and 6 in the Non Pro one. Markus Schopfer, one of the most versatile trainers in Europe, won the Open division stride the Appaloosa mare My Mom Won It All, owned by Marco Brunetti of the breeding centre Morona Appaloosa. Markus performed a great herd work in both go rounds (score 72 and 74), and ended with a brilliant fence work, which granted him the title of ERCHA Spring Stakes Open Champion. The five year old mare, out of I’m A Doc Olena, the only appaloosa son of Doc O’Lena, won the ERCHA Derby 2004 in Reggio Emilia, and has always proved her natural cow sense and attitude in this discipline. Filippo Masi astride his own Arc Doctor Del Maso (by Doctor In Diamonds) placed second, with a total composite score of 414.5, with very good performances both in Markus Schöpfer My Mom Won It All the Reined Work and Fencework. Markus also placed third in the Open class, riding the 4 years old buckskin mare Reminic’s Hope, (Reminic x Sample Chex, da Bueno Chex), a full sister of the palomino stallion Buenonic Chex, owned by Paolo Marasso. But the true emotions came from the performances of the Non Pro riders, who have achieved an extremely good level of technique and quality in this discipline. The winner of the Non Pro division is Mauro Taccia, stride his paint stallion Briga Lynx, a four year old son of Brigalenas Classic x Snow Lady Lynx by Lynx Super Lasan. The Italian rider had already shown the horse last year, for Pre-Futurity 2004 and in Americana, without gaining satisfactory results. In this occasion, the horse really proved to be extremely talented, especially in the fence work, in which he proved fast speed and sudden stops and turns. Taccia have trained the horse by himself since he was almost three years old, but he admitted that he did not have much time to work him on the cows. Nevertheless, the horse came out as a good fencer, scoring 72 in both the go rounds, 16 QUARTER HORSE TODAY 15/05
international QHT for a final composite of 421.5 points. Reserve Champion of the Non Pro division is Tony Cancellieri, who gained the second place thanks astride his sorrel gelding RDH Butter N Sugar (Smart Sugar Chic x Arc Oak Cassiopea), a five year old horse, started in reining by Nic Cordioli for the RD Horses Breeding Centre, and now trained by Ricky Nicolazzi. The nice gelding proved his attitude in reining in both Go rounds, gaining a brilliant 72.5 in the 1st Go (Top Score of the Reined Work for the whole show) and confirming his talent in the 2nd Go. Tony defined his horse as a good, big hearted boy, easy and enjoyable to ride. He will be showing this horse in the Reining Derby 2005 in Manerbio, while Mauro Tacci will compete astride Avalon Lena, with whom he gained the Non Pro Futurity Final 2004. The next Cowhorse show will be the ERCHA Derby, which will be held in Reggio Emilia by the end of May, together with the American Horse Saloon. Don’t miss it! The winner finally was Rudi Kronsteiner astride Lil Cajun Jac (144,5). Dennis Schulz astride Ninjajac Hollywood and Markus Morawitz astride Overlook Me Jac tied for second place. Then Rudi Kronsteiner and Seventh Iron followed on the fourth place. Tina Künstner-Mantl placed fifth resp. sixth astride Ima Great Twist resp. Tuff Chic Olena (142,5 resp. 141,5).
