Das Streifenmuster der städtischen
Bushaltestellenhäuschen in
San Francisco wird eine feste Kulisse
für das hinter ihr vorbei ziehende
Stadtbild. Die räumlichen
Schwankungen bieten ein konstant
vertauschtes Spiel von Figur, Boden
und Raum, und erschaffen somit
die Illusion, dass gleichzeitig
zwei Räume an nur einem Ort möglich
sind.

which the city passes. Spatial oscillations
provide a constantly permutating
play of figure, ground and
space, imaging the possibility of
being two places at once.
Chris Kennedy is an independent
filmmaker, programmer and writer
currently living in Toronto. His experimental
films have screened at
over 50 film festivals worldwide and
he has presented film programs in
Egypt, Belgium, Germany, the US &
Canada. He holds an MFA from the
San Francisco Art Institute.

Eigentlich hätte es eines der urbanen Vorzeigeprojekte des modernen
Italien nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg werden sollen: Das - obwohl bereits
unter Mussolini geplante - Stadtviertel Don Bosco am südlichen Rand
Roms, wurde ganz im Geist des Wiederaufbaus der Nachkriegszeit und im
Stile des Modernismus der 1950er und 1960er Jahre errichtet. Vergleichbar
mit Wohnbauprojekten in anderen europäischen Großstädten zeigt
sich auch in Don Bosco virulent die Kluft zwischen den sozialpolitischen
Utopien der Moderne und deren Realität. Mit Borgate setzt die Medienkünstlerin
und Architektin Lotte Schreiber ihre Serie von filmischen
Untersuchungen über Architektur und (Stadt)Raum fort... Im Wechselspiel
der meist statischen Einstellungen oder ruhigen Schwenks über
Fassaden und bauliche Details mit filmischen Zitaten von Pasolini und
Fellini bis Antonioni produziert Borgate ein visuelles und akustisches
Panoptikum über das Scheitern urbanen Utopien. Gery Weber
It was originally intended to be modern Italy's showcase urban project after
WW II: the Don Bosco housing project on the southern edge of Rome.
Though planned while Mussolini was in power, Don Bosco matches the
Modernist style of the 1950s and 1960s and is wholly in harmony with the
spirit of postwar reconstruction. As it is comparable to housing projects
in other large European cities, this housing project demonstrates the gap
between sociopolitical utopias of the Modern age and their reality in a
virulent manner. Borgate is media artist and architect Lotte Schreiber's
latest installment in her series of filmic examinations of architecture and
(urban) space... In the interplay of the mainly static shots and relaxed
pans across facades and structural details, combined with quotes from
Pasolini and Fellini to Antonioni, Borgate produces a visual and acoustic
