Water is a ubiqui<strong>to</strong>us and mutable<br />

substance. it is the fundamental element<br />

that enables and sustains all life on earth,<br />

but possess’ a deadly and destructive<br />

power. since the nineteenth century,<br />

water and its environs have presented<br />

an endlessly fascinating subject for<br />

pho<strong>to</strong>graphers. This exhibition, drawn<br />

from the collection <strong>of</strong> the National<br />

gallery <strong>of</strong> vic<strong>to</strong>ria, will be in two sections,<br />

freshwater and saltwater, and will include<br />

pho<strong>to</strong>graphs <strong>of</strong>; Antarctica, seascapes<br />

and coastal scenes, inland water ways<br />

and rivers, and images <strong>of</strong> swimming<br />

and bathing.<br />
