in the foyer <strong>of</strong> the state government<br />
Office you can view the unique 30 metre<br />
his<strong>to</strong>ric mural that depicts the his<strong>to</strong>ry<br />
and development <strong>of</strong> geelong and the<br />
Western District. The mural contains more<br />
than a 1.25million cut-glass tiles imported<br />
from venice for its construction.<br />

Megan will provide insight and her tips<br />

family tree. Megan is author <strong>of</strong> the book<br />
“How To Get More Family Tree Time—<br />
Tips for the Time Poor”. she has worked<br />
as a freelance researcher on episodes<br />
<strong>of</strong> the hit Australian Tv series “Who Do<br />
You Think You Are?” (including geelong<br />
research) and will present a 1-hour talk<br />
at 11.30am and again at 1.30pm in the<br />
Heritage Centre’s Morrow Theatrette,<br />
giving genealogists and family his<strong>to</strong>rians<br />
<strong>of</strong> all levels tips on how <strong>to</strong> get more time<br />
<strong>to</strong> start or progress with your family tree<br />
...before it’s <strong>to</strong>o late.<br />

sale at a special Heritage Festival price.<br />

this his<strong>to</strong>rical re-enactment by local<br />
playwright Doug Mann features Neil<br />
Fletcher as “The Boatman”<br />
With its own enigmatic pulse the river<br />
Barwon flows, living and life giving,<br />
through the heart <strong>of</strong> geelong. its waters<br />
and 22 kilometres <strong>of</strong> bank-side parks are<br />
home <strong>to</strong> a pr<strong>of</strong>usion <strong>of</strong> natural and<br />
man-made heritage, each with many<br />
a s<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>to</strong> tell. There are pelican and<br />
platypus (yes, deep in the heart <strong>of</strong><br />
the city!), rosella and redfin, red gum,<br />
cumbungi. ghosts can be heard in<br />
the whispering reeds, haunting the<br />
cliffs and the midden heaps. stately<br />
gardens look down on the waters and<br />
once bustling fac<strong>to</strong>ries have long held<br />
their breath. look closely and you may<br />
see the champion rowers with bristling<br />
moustaches drip ripples <strong>of</strong> gold from<br />
their glistening oars. Watch closely, and<br />
listen, <strong>to</strong> the tales <strong>of</strong> The Boatman as he<br />
unlocks the secrets that belong <strong>to</strong> us all<br />
in the waters <strong>of</strong> the river, time present,<br />
