At some sites passengers may alight
from the bus and take a short walk for
closer viewing.
The route includes many of geelong’s
early heritage sites and structures
associated with the waters of the Barwon
river and Corio Bay, including indigenous
places; river crossings; quarrying;
water supply and sewerage; maritime
and shipping sites; recreational and
industrial usage.

ground, 10 km north of Anakie, east off
the geelong-Ballan road.

parks victoria rangers offer vehicular
transport from the picnic ground to the
lower reservoir wall for those unable to
manage the walk.
enjoy this leisurely walk through Anakie
gorge along a relatively flat gradient to
reach the lower stony Creek reservoir
wall, constructed in 1874 and the first
concrete dam wall in the southern
hemisphere. in the 1870s the ranges
began to play a vital role supplying the
first permanent water to geelong. 3000
ha of the Brisbane ranges were reserved
as a catchment area and a pipeline was
built through Anakie gorge. remains of
the pipe and weirs are still visible today.
