Geophysical Field 29.07- 07.08.2011 <strong>edu</strong>cational project camp in Jurilovca, Romania 09-17.08.11 field trip 03-09.09.11 <strong>edu</strong>cational project West meets East – field workshop on Romanian petroleum and Danube Delta Systems <strong>edu</strong>cation opportunity and field experience for students; creating a connection with University of Belgrad <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> comprehend the analogies between different depositional systems and current petroleum plays in Romania ;compare the two different types of <strong>edu</strong>cation, points of view and distinct cultures <strong>edu</strong>cation opportunity Geophysical field and field experience for camp in Nis, Serbia students The group of Romanian and Serbian students applied several non-invasive investigation methods on the archeological site (resistivity surveys, GPR, magnetics and active seismics). <strong>Student</strong>s learned hands-on about using <strong>geo</strong>physical equipment and data acquisition, but also in setting-up a field camp. Moreover, we were able to experience a cultural exchange with the Serbian students and share our experience in the field and work together in teams developing our team work skills. We created an international bond with the Serbian SEG student chapter, which will hopefully lead to more joint activities. We held a workshop with the archeologists on site, who were students at the Universities in France and Canada and their professors, where we presented and discussed our preliminary results. Our surveys indicated to important buried structures. More detailed studies were made by students with the aid of the project scientific coordinators which will be presented at student conferences. Based on the results, prospecting trenches have been approved for the summer of 2012. The field camp was a full success. Undergraduates, MSc and PhD students from Aberdeen and Bucharest partook the 10 days program comprised of short courses and extended field trips. The link with the Oil Companies was an essential aspect in bridging the gap between students, young professionals and the Industry. The sch<strong>edu</strong>le offered good balance between technical and social activities. The project was sponsored by GeoEcoMar, Prospectiuni SA, Zeta Petroleum and through “Prof. Grigore Raileanu” Award offered by Mr. Bogdan Popescu (Zeta Petroleum) to our chapter. The international Serbian-Romanian group of students investigated the Mediana archaeological site with <strong>geo</strong>physical methods. The students gain hands-on in using <strong>geo</strong>physical equipment and in setting-up a field camp. Integrating resistivity and magnetic surveys important burried structures have been evidenced. Also, some sites assumed to be of interest by the archaeologists have been infirmed. The project had also a very important networking aspect, creating strong friendships that are now the key for new collaborations.
