Summary
Please fill out the questions below.
1. What significant goal or contribution has your chapter achieved this year?
Our greatest achievement this year was the 10 day field camp financed by the SEG
Foundation and co-financed by EAGE <strong>Student</strong> Fund and Prospectiuni SA., which took place at
an important archeological site near the town of Jurilovca, Romania. The opportunity of
working hands-on with <strong>geo</strong>physical equipment came as an answer to students’ need of
combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience, very important to future
<strong>geo</strong>physicists. Having representatives from University of Belgrad SC with us was a great
addition to the experience and the friendship that developed during the camp will hopefully
materialize into more joint activities. We had support from the “Vasile Parvan” Institute of
Archaeology, with which we still stay in touch and with which we will continue our collaboration
this summer. The field camp experience has inspired younger students to make more detailed
studies, with the aid of the PhD students that were the project’s scientific coordinators.
2. List any goals your chapter has for next year? Anything important you would like to
try to accomplish?
Over the next year, we want to strengthen our connections with companies and invite more
speakers from industry. We’re hoping on organizing workshops with industry workers. We also
want to continue our great collaboration with the other student chapters in our university – BSC
of AAPG, EAGE and SEG (Society of Economic Geologists); together we will continue
promoting extra-curricular <strong>geo</strong>sciences activities with aid from the faculty. We’ve already
started planning our summer activity, which will be organized as an international “summer
school” that will prepare students to face the real challenges of the industry. We plan on
continuing our work on the archeological site near Jurilovca, but also, with the aid of
Prospectiuni S.A. and Weatherford we want to learn about <strong>geo</strong>physics applied for oil & gas
exploration, more specifically seismics and well-logging. We’re hoping for a great networking
experience between student chapters from the East Europe area.
3. <strong>Chapter</strong> Wish List: What are some things you would like the chapter to receive,
either from SEG or from local companies?
We hope for a better communication with companies; we would like more representatives of
the industry to interact with students to better prepare us for profession. We need more (free)
short courses available for students, from both SEG and company workers. We would like to
receive financial support for organizing our activities and for travelling to conferences and
symposiums. Also, companies should offer more trainings for students that will help us apply
what we have learned theoretically. Also, we think it would be great if the SEG web-site would
support student chapter sites.
