The first unit of 3X350 MW Coal based Kamalanga
Thermal Power Plant near Dhenkanal, Odisha, was
successfully synchronized with the Central grid
on 27th January 2013. This is the Group’s second
Coal-based power plant to be synchronized.
Commissioning work in the second and third units
is in progress. The project has been implemented
on multiple package concepts and is the first IPP
in Odisha under MoU, to have been synchronized
with the Central Grid. The project will cater to the
Power needs of various States of India including
Odisha.

The first 300 MW unit of GMR EMCO Energy Limited
commenced commercial generation of Power. The
Group is establishing a 2X300 MW Coal-based
Power project at Warora in Chandrapur District,
near Nagpur. This is the Group’s first Coal-based
Power plant to commence commercial generation.
The 300 MW unit was synchronized with the grid
on 10th December, 2012. Power generated from
the plant is being evacuated to Bhadravati substation
of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.
Work on commissioning the second unit is in
advanced stages.

for GHIAL
The second cycle of detailed Assessment of
GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL)
was completed by Tata Quality Management
Services. The team spent considerable time in
the preparation and finalization of Business
Application. GHIAL scored 476 and moved
to “Good Performance” band in the Business
Excellence Maturity Band.

Annual Summit of Community Services Wing
The seventh Annual Summit of GMR Varalakshmi
Foundation’s Community Services Wing (CSW)
was held from 4th - 7th December, 2012 at
GMR Varalakshmi Center for Empowerment and
Road Safety Week
Livelihoods, Hyderabad. The main aim of the
Summit was to bring together the staff of CSW
as a National group, facilitate exchange of ideas
and discussion of challenges. The event included
presentations on best practices, breakthrough
achievements, challenges, group discussions on
mobilization strategies for Vocational Training,
etc. Highlights of the event included a VC with
Mr. G M Rao, Group Chairman and inputs from
Mr. K Balasubramanian, Group Holding Board
member, Mr. Madhu Terdal, CEO - Urban Infra
Business and Dr. Raghunathan, CEO - GMRVF.
‘CARE’ Hospital
Empanelled
Our Group Chairman, Mr. G M Rao, celebrated
Sankranti 2013 at Rajam along with his family
members through Annadanam and Vastradanam
for the needy.
Sankranti 2013 saw a huge gathering of about
14,000 aged, needy and differently abled
persons. Group Chairman along with his wife,
Mrs. G Varalakshmi, Mr. Srinivas Bommidala
and his wife Mrs. Ramadevi Bommidala,
Mr. G B S Raju and his wife Mrs. Smitha
Raju, Mr. Kiran Kumar Grandhi and his wife
Mrs. Ragini Grandhi along with other family
members and guests participated in the
distribution of clothes and food.
The event was organized by Community Services
Wing of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation - Rajam
with the active support of GMRVF team, while
RAXA team facilitated crowd management.
GMRVF observed the Road Safety Week from
1st to 7th January 2013 at various road projects.
The theme for 2013 was “Stay alive, don’t drink
and drive”. About 44,000 people benefitted from
activities like Road Safety Awareness Camp,
installation of sign boards, live video shows, Street
Plays, distribution of pamphlets, pasting reflective
tapes on vehicles, road safety competitions at
schools, Blood Donation Camps etc.

India (NHAI), Traffic Police Department and other
Government Departments along with employees
from various departments of GMR Infrastructure
Limited and RAXA participated in the activities.
GMR Varalakshmi CARE Hospital, Rajam has been
empanelled as one of the network hospitals for
Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme. “Rajiv Aarogyasri” is
a unique Community Health Insurance Scheme
being implemented in Andhra Pradesh since 2007.
It provides financial protection to families below
poverty line for treatment of about 938 serious
ailments requiring hospitalization and surgery.
Free Eye Camp
RGIA Transport Department organized a three-day
free Eye Camp for the benefit of prepaid taxi, radio
taxi (Merucab and Skycab) and APSRTC drivers
from 13th to 16th February 2013 at Passenger
Transportation Center (PTC) with the support of
Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital, Hyderabad.

Chandrabhushan hails from a weavers’ family and acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. He
could not pursue higher studies because of the poor financial situation of the family.
He wanted to start a business but was not clear about type of business that he could take up. At that

anticipation. It is no different now that the Pepsi IPL
2013 is round the corner, with the Delhi Daredevils
owned by the GMR Group - getting ready to
break new ground in more senses than one.
Talking of new frontiers, the GMR Group will
extend its partnership with Chhattisgarh by having
Delhi Daredevils play two of its home games at
the Shahid Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur.
Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister-Chhattisgarh,
launched the ticket sales for the Raipur matches
at an impressive function in the State Capital on
19th March 2013.
There are a number of new initiatives for fan
engagement that the Delhi Daredevils is taking
this season, besides its effort on social media.
For one, there are plans to make more than 50
videos – both informative and fun – that will be
made available across many digital platforms. For
another, there will be two exciting digital games
– Predictor and Fantasy – that will keep the fans
engaged during the matches.
From the CSR viewpoint, Delhi Daredevils will
take the Dare To Care initiative with UNICEF into
the second year. UNICEF has drawn up plans for
a fund-raising dinner on April 19 where some
memorabilia will be auctioned. This will help
provide a greater thrust to raise awareness to
the rights of the adolescent girls in India. Delhi
Daredevils will also lend support to a movement
called Batting for Art in partnership with
Arts 4 All, a not-for-profit organization that
encourages young artists.
Let us hope that the new season will see new
frontiers being breached by the Delhi Daredevils
that aims to be the most loved IPL team !!!
