Instructional Media Consultation<br />

Services in the areas of media selection, integration,<br />

electronic information access, professional development,<br />

program development and facility design support are<br />

available to school districts.<br />

Instructional Technology<br />

Consultation and assistance is available in nearly every<br />

area of instructional technology. Consultants offer onsite<br />

workshops as well as assistance in classroom<br />

implementation of best practices utilizing instructional<br />

technology. Consultants will work with individuals, small<br />

groups, or large groups on an “as needed” basis or as<br />

part of district initiatives. In addition, technology reviews<br />

of districts or buildings are available upon request.<br />

Internet<br />

The <strong>AEA</strong> serves as a gateway for schools to access<br />

Internet via the ICN.<br />

Iowa <strong>AEA</strong> Online<br />

Educational resources funded and provided by Iowa’s<br />

<strong>AEA</strong>s to support curriculum content standards, student<br />

achievement and professional development. Resources<br />

include Atomic Learning (computer tutorials), iClipart<br />

for Schools, EBSCO, Multimedia Archive (primary<br />

documents from AP Photo), World Book Web, SIRS<br />

Researcher, Discovery Streaming, AccuWeather and<br />

LEARN360. Training is available upon request.<br />

Iowa Collaborative Assessment Modules (ICAM)<br />

Mathematics and reading assessments are made available<br />

each spring. The modules cover a variety of standards<br />

and include constructed response items. GH<strong>AEA</strong><br />

facilitates an annual collaborative scoring session for the<br />

modules each June. Data from ICAM is used to monitor<br />

district goals/progress and for district-wide assessment<br />

reporting in Annual Progress Reports.<br />

Iowa Communications Network (ICN)<br />

The ICN is a statewide two-way interactive<br />

videoconferencing network connecting more than 700<br />

sites throughout Iowa and providing distance learning<br />

opportunities to K-12, post-secondary and adult learners.<br />

The ICN links to other national and international video<br />

conferencing sites, bringing the world to Iowa<br />

classrooms. The <strong>AEA</strong> provides support to area school<br />

districts for all facets of the ICN experience, from<br />

technical support and training, to developing exemplary<br />

experiences. The <strong>AEA</strong>’s fiber optic room is available for<br />

scheduling.<br />

Local ICN support and troubleshooting are provided by<br />

<strong>Green</strong> <strong>Hills</strong> through the Regional Technology Council<br />

(RTC).<br />

Iowa Core<br />

Iowa Core is a statewide mandate that requires<br />

implementation through a multi-phase approach. The<br />

outcomes of the implementation plan identify the<br />

leadership, supports, professional development,<br />

alignment, data analysis and effective instruction needed<br />

to ensure all Iowa students have the concepts and skills<br />

needed for the 21st Century.<br />

Iowa Educators Consortium (IEC)<br />

IEC is an independent, tax-exempt, nonprofit program<br />

with the primary function of providing voluntary<br />

purchasing meeting state bidding procedures and<br />

allowing schools to take advantage of aggressive pricing<br />

based on volume purchasing. An initiative of the Iowa<br />

Area Education Agencies merging all existing<br />

cooperative purchasing programs.<br />

Iowa Evaluator Approval<br />

Iowa law requires any practicing administrator in the<br />

state complete the Iowa Evaluator Approval Program in<br />

order to evaluate teachers, librarians, counselors, coaches,<br />

school nurses and other administrators. There are<br />

currently three levels offered to meet these state<br />

requirements:<br />

• Level I: Initial training and prerequisite to any other<br />

level. Contact Iowa Department of Education for course<br />

availability.<br />

• Level II: Evaluation of Teachers - focusing on the Iowa<br />

Teaching Standards (2 credits)<br />

• Level II: Evaluation of Administrators - focusing on<br />

the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (2 credits)<br />

• Level III: Assessing for Academic Rigor (2 credits)<br />
