Honors: ACC Champion (200 Free Relay - 2011) … All-ACC (200 Free Relay - 2011).
2010-11: Closed junior campaign in top condition, setting three new school
records … as a member of the 200 free relay team, broke the school record
with a time of 1:18.52 at the 2011 ACC Championships to earn the conference
title (also a first for the program) and collect All-ACC honors … set the record
in the 200 fly (1:47.39) while also sprinting to a third-place finish in the 400
free relay, clocking in a time of 2:54.41 … opened season as a member of the
200 free relay team which broke the school record at UNC Wilmington … that
relay team also established a new pool record at 1:32.52 in the 200 medley
relay in the season home opener against Maryland … took eighth in the men’s
100 fly at the Nike Cup ... won the 100 fly with a mark of 50.42 against Virginia.
2009-10: Competed in the 50 free (20.91), 100 fly (48.34) and the 200 fly
at the ACC Championships ... broke the school record for the 200 fly in the
ACC Championship meet with a time of 1:48.72 ... over the summer, competed
in the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in
Irvine, Calif., finishing 97th overall in the 100 fly with a time of 57.35.
2008-09: Came on strong at the end of his first season with two top-25
finishes at the ACC Championships … set a lifetime best in the 100 fly at the
conference meet, recording a mark of 48.97 during prelims before posting
a 49.51 in the finals to claim 24th place … also took 24th place in the 200 fly,
swimming a career-best 1:52.56 in the prelims and coming back in 1:55.16 at
finals … clocked 52.65 in the 100 fly to finish third against Maryland and NC
State … stopped the clock in 22.18 seconds for a season-best in the 50 free
at the Gamecock Invitational … recorded his first collegiate victory in the
100 back against Gardner-Webb (55.12).
Prep: Broke the Virginia state record in the 100 butterfly with a time of
49.77 during preliminaries … 2008 Honorable Mention All-Metro team for
D.C. area … qualified for Junior Nationals as a junior in the 100 fly with a
time of 51.77, and as a senior in the 100 fly (49.64) and 200 fly (1:53.71) …
made bonus event times for the 100 backstroke … dropped two seconds
off time at Junior Nationals in 200 fly senior year (1:51.93) … had Junior
Nationals qualifying times in 100 and 200 fly … swam best time of 22.95 in
50 fly … automatic All-America in the 100 fly and 200 medley relay … broke
school record both junior and senior year in the 100 fly … also swam 100
backstroke in the Virginia state meet as a senior … qualified for states in the
100 fly as a freshman, sophomore, and junior and swam in the consolation
finals all three years … 2007 all-region in 100 fly … All-America in 200 medley
relay … took third in the medley relay as a sophomore and qualified for
regionals in the 100 backstroke … 2006 all-district in 100 fly and 400 free
… four-year letterwinner … Potomac Valley Swimming PVS Scholar-Athlete
for four years … swam for the Potomac Marlins club team in Fairfax since
age seven … also a principal cellist in the Advanced Symphonic Orchestra
junior and senior years … advanced to All-Regional and All-State Orchestra.
Personal: Born Benjamin Patrick Tuben on Jan. 9, 1990 in Fairfax, Va. … son of
Jerry and Pamela Tuben … has two brothers, Daniel and Mark, and one sister,
Michelle … favorite athlete is Alex Ovechkin of the NHL’s Washington Capitals.
