2010-11: Opened the season with a fourth-place showing in the 100 back
against UNC Wilmington (58.88) … notched a 1:54.72 split as a member of
the 800 free relay at the Nike Cup … took second in the 200 back against
North Carolina with a 2:03.44 clocking … ended the year at the ACC Championships,
where she posted a personal-best 56.03 in the prelims of the 100
back ... place 22nd in the event finals at 56.14 … also competed in the 200
back at the conference meet, finishing 19th in a season-best time of 1:59.63.
2009-10: Placed sixth in the 100 back with a time of 59.65 and third in the
200 back with a time of 2:07.41 against UNC Wilmington ... broke the school
record for the 200 back with a time of 1:59.47, which was good for a 12thplace
finish at the ACC Championships ... also placed sixth overall in the 200
medley relay with a time of 1:41.30 and individual best time of 26.29 at the
conference meet.
Prep: Four-year letterwinner at St. Pius X Catholic High School … competed
at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha where she finished 60th in the 200
back … 10-year tenure with the Dynamo Swim Club of Atlanta, Ga. … selected
as a four-time All-America in swimming … named to Georgia’s All-State
team for three seasons … school record holder in the 100 back, 400 free
relay and 200 medley relay … finished third in the state as a sophomore
in the 500 free and 100 back … state champion in the 100 back as a junior
while also placing third in the 200 free … recorded a second-place finish
in the 100 back and a third place in the 200 free her senior year … led her
school to second place at the state meet, the school’s highest finish in its 50
year history ... USA Swimming Academic All-American … Magna Cum Laude
on the National Latin Exam.
Personal: Born Emily Michelle Kintz on Aug. 8, 1990 in Decatur, Ga. …
daughter of Douglas and Laura Kintz … relatives who graduated from Duke
include her grandfather, George Jerome Kintz (’53), grandmother, Lila Sue
Tyson Kintz (’56), great uncle, Bruce Carroll Tyson Jr. (’58), and cousin, Erica
Nicole Kintz (’04) … majoring in classical studies … her favorite athlete
is Olympian Dara Torres.
