<strong>Student</strong> Rights and Responsibilities<br />
<strong>Gateway</strong> is dedicated to helping students identify and achieve realistic goals through<br />
excellent educational opportunities. The administration and staff of the <strong>College</strong> promote<br />
responsible participation and high achievement as goals for our students. As a<br />
<strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> student, you should be aware of and accept responsibility<br />
as an active, contributing member of the <strong>College</strong>. This section explains policies<br />
and procedures identifying student rights and responsibilities. <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> believes that all students have responsibilities in the areas of governance,<br />
services, and conduct.<br />
<strong>Student</strong> Academic Responsibilities<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s are responsible for their own learning and development. They have a responsibility<br />
to be active learners by attending class, participating in class activities<br />
and discussions, completing class and laboratory assignments, and preparing in advance<br />
for the scheduled class session.<br />
<strong>Student</strong> Use of Services Responsibilities<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s are responsible for appropriate use of equipment and services provided by<br />
the <strong>College</strong>:<br />
• Knowledge and participation in student social and professional activities.<br />
• Seeking assistance when facing problems that interfere with educational<br />
success.<br />
• Meeting financial obligations to <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> and those incurred<br />
through student loan programs.<br />
<strong>Student</strong> Code of Conduct<br />
Policy<br />
The <strong>Gateway</strong> District recognizes that in order to operate a meaningful educational<br />
program and a safe environment for students and staff, the <strong>Student</strong> Code of Conduct<br />
will be followed. The <strong>Gateway</strong> District believes every student has the right to pursue<br />
an education free from disruption, harassment, illegal activities, threats, or danger.<br />
The District further believes that academic honesty and integrity are fundamental to<br />
the educational mission of this <strong>College</strong>. Every student is expected to comply with<br />
the standards set and to be familiar with all the rules and regulations of <strong>Gateway</strong><br />
<strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Any student or group of students may be denied access to the<br />
classroom upon the instructor’s determination that the behavior impedes student<br />
learning and/or the health and safety of peers, self, or the staff. The instructor will<br />
notify the student(s) of their denied access. The dean of campus affairs will also be<br />
notified by the end of the working day.<br />
