Drug-free Environment<br />
<strong>Student</strong> Rights and Responsibilities<br />
Any student who engages in an activity, on District premises or at a District-sponsored<br />
event, that constitutes a violation of State of Wisconsin Uniform Controlled<br />
Substances Act shall be subject to nonacademic misconduct disciplinary sanctions.<br />
In determining the appropriate sanction, the <strong>College</strong> president, or designee, shall<br />
consider those penalties, including suspension and expulsion, that will contribute<br />
most effectively to maintaining a <strong>College</strong> environment free from controlled substances.<br />
In keeping with local, state, and federal laws, <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> prohibits<br />
the pos session, use, or distribution of drugs and alcohol by students while on <strong>College</strong><br />
property or when involved in any <strong>College</strong> sponsored activity. If a student has a<br />
drug or alcohol problem, we highly recommend that they seek assistance from the<br />
<strong>Student</strong> Services office.<br />
Tobacco-free Environment<br />
<strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong> supports the concept of wellness, the U.S. Surgeon General’s<br />
mandate for a smoke-free America and the spirit of Wisconsin’s Clean Indoor<br />
Air Act. <strong>Gateway</strong> has taken positive steps to provide a healthier environment for<br />
students, employees, and visitors.<br />
Smoking and tobacco use is prohibited in all buildings and on grounds, sidewalks,<br />
streets, parking lots, and structures owned or leased by <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
Persons who violate this policy will be fined $10 for each violation.<br />
Conceal Carry<br />
In an effort to provide a safe learning and working environment, <strong>Gateway</strong> <strong>Technical</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> has initiated a policy prohibiting anyone from bringing a weapon inside any<br />
college building. <strong>Gateway</strong> bans all weapons inside college facilities which includes<br />
– but is not limited to – such items as knives and firearms.<br />
Persons storing weapons within their own vehicles parked on college owned, leased,<br />
or operated lots or grounds must:<br />
• Conceal the weapon from open view of persons moving in or around the vehicle.<br />
• If a firearm, unload the weapon.<br />
• If a firearm, store the weapon in a secured (locked) case or install a locked trigger<br />
guard.<br />
