Heil, completing his ninth
year as sheriff • he also
served nine years as
undersheriff of Cape May
reelection by the County
favor of a mnveomer to
politics, Beech Fox, of Rio
policeman. Earlier this year
during his recuperation
out he would not bo picked
candidate. However,
Freeholder Director Dr, Leon
Heil in the primary fight,
but the Incumbent sheriff
.was defeated by Fox for the
In announcing his support
Republican leaden - although
many people. fecl j am
justified to do so-but purely
out of respeet for the more
qualified candidate. I feel
that the office should not
bo drawn Into the realm of
partisan politics, and that
the man who is to be
sheriff should have the
necessary background and
experience to do a good and
efficient job, Mr. Kelly's
more than 2B years of
exceptional experience and
numerous commendations
and awards for meritorious
service In law enforcement
indicates without question
that he is exincntly. qualified
for the pest of sheriff. Also,
I am sure he will maintain
the office of sheriff as an
agency which will serve the
people well.*'
